NRS inflatable boats have come a long way since the first NRS Otter rolled off the production line in 1983. Advances in materials, design and manufacturing have allowed us to create a line of rafts, catarafts and inflatable kayaks that is as exciting and diverse as the world’s rivers and those compelled to run them.
As paddlesports have evolved over the years, so has inflatable boat technology. Since its founding in 1972, NRS has established itself as a leading innovator in all categories of paddling gear. Today, our boat designs employ the latest in materials, engineering and production methods, along with the experience we’ve gained from decades on the water.
Pennel Orca®
For years the terms NRS and “Hypalon boat” were synonymous. Chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CP), or Hypalon®, was invented by DuPont. Its durability, air-holding excellence and resistance to abrasion, ultraviolet light and petroleum products has made it the gold standard for inflatable boat construction and the primary boat-building material used by NRS for years. In April of 2010, Dupont stopped producing Hypalon. Fortunately, NRS discovered another source for premium quality CP boat material. Our Pennel Orca fabric is the new gold standard.
NRS Revolution Fabric
NRS Revolution Fabric represents the cutting edge of raft, cataraft and inflatable kayak design. This polyurethane-coated nylon material is incredibly lightweight and abrasion resistant. Its smooth outer skin makes it slide over rocks and glide through current like no other material. We use a space-age welding process to build our exciting Revolution designs, rather than traditional hand-gluing. The result is a line of bold, high-performance boats that the private boater can afford.
Drop Stitch
Yet another way we’re redefining inflatables. Our drop-stitch technology enables us to build rigid, high-air-pressure watercraft with flat decks and hulls. The top and bottom surfaces of a drop-stitch air chamber are joined by an intricate network of polyester threads that maintain the chamber’s shape at air pressures up to six times higher than that of conventional inflatables. We coat the outside of the material with super-durable PVC, making drop-stitch boats and boards as tough as they are innovative.
NRS E-Series Rafts
E stands for Expedition. If you’re one of those boaters who habitually venture out to battle the sharpest rocks, swiftest currents and ugliest conditions, then these are the boats for you. We build the tubes and self-bailing floors with heavy-duty 1670-denier /48 oz. Pennel Orca fabric. The entire underside of the boat is then covered with an additional layer of commercial grade HD-40 floor armor. We also add a Pennel Orca wear patch to protect the tops of the tubes. The main tubes are divided into four separate air chambers for extra security in emergency situations. Trouble-free Leafield™ C7 valves ensure easy inflation and a Leafield A6 pressure relief valve protects the floor. MaverIK I and MaverIK II Inflatable Kayaks
NRS MaverIK I and MaverIK II Inflatable Kayaks are the boats that redefined "ducky."
