GACOFLEX HYPALON® AND NEOPRENE COATINGS
GACOFLEX H-22 can be used on neoprene or hypalon®.
GACOFLEX is not a suitable coating for PVC Plastic.
Safety Precautions
- Chemical resistant gloves (i.e. Nitrile gloves)
- Work in a well ventilated area (garage or shady area
works well)
- Organic fume resperator
- Eye Protection
Seepage hole location and treatment
- Inflate your boat and wipe surfaces with detergent suds to locate
any seepage holes.
- Mark holes and deflate your boat.
- Wipe the area of the seepage with Gacoflex thinner 3-4 times in patches
of about two square inches around each seep hole. The thinner both cleans
surfaces and opens fabric pores..
- If using activator, mix paint and activator now. (Activator to paint
ratio is 1oz activator to 1 gallon paint)
- Thin Gacoflex coating with thinner at a ratio of approximately 1 part
thinner to 10 parts coating. Remember, if the coating is too thick,
it will peel off.
- Apply coating with a brush rather than a roller. Two thin coats are
better than one thick coat. Apply the coating to an area about two square
inches around the hole. Dry time for first coat 1 hour. Apply second
coat within 3 hours.
- Re-inflate to hold the boat "softly" in shape..
- Repeat the above steps if you detect seepage.
- If you are going to coat the raft tubes, proceed to "Overall
Surface Treatment" directions below.
- Optimal curing time is approximately 24 hours.
Overall surface treatment
- Wipe down tubes with Gacoflex thinner. The thinner will establish
a "tack" on the surface.
Note: Gacoflex should be applied immediately after
thinner application to take advantage of the "tack" for a
better bond.
- Successive coats should be applied about an hour apart for the best
bond. To avoid coat wrinkle, do not wait more than three hours. On previously
applied coats which have completely dried, wipe lightly with a dampened
thinner rag, but do not allow the thinner to "puddle".
- Leave the boat "softly" inflated for about 48 hours. If
deflating before one week, wipe completely with talc to prevent the
coated surfaces from sticking together. This can occur even after the
coating seems to be dry.
Note: Year round use of 303 protectant is recommended
between uses and before storage of your inflatable.
