Latex gaskets used in dry tops, drysuits and dry pants are pretty tough, but they don't last forever. When they do fail, you can have someone else replace them (we can do it for you) or you can do the job yourself. In this article, the latest in our Joys of Fixing Your Own Gear series, we share some tips on making your gaskets last longer and give you a video with step-by-step instructions on do-it-yourself...
Alec Voorhees, a member of our Ambassador Team, is an accomplished kayaker who's paddled many streams in the West and competed on quite a few of them. And he's 12 years old. Note: Alec is the one in the top photo wearing the blue helmet.
News from NRS
Thomas Hayden is gearing up for a late-March Grand Canyon trip. Like most people who make that trip, he plans to take photos to document the journey. What will be unique about his photos is that each one will give a 360° view of the Canyon.
He's using an amazing robotic camera setup called a GigaPan Epic 100 that shoots many separate photos and then stitches them together into a seamless wrap-around view. Many of you probably saw this system used in a GigaPan image taken at President Obama's inauguration. NRS is helping Thomas with his project and we'll be bringing you more info about it in future e-News issues. And, when he gets the photos online, we'll let you know where you can view them.
Here's how you can help with the project:
Thomas has been down the Canyon once before, but he welcomes suggestions from others who've been there on good spots to take these unique photos. Write to editor@nrsweb.com with your suggestion of a great location and a brief reason for your choice. We'll pass the suggestions along to Thomas. Write quickly, because he leaves in less than a week.
