How To: Dress for Fall Whitewater Kayaking
To safely extend your whitewater kayaking season from the warm summer months to the cooler temperatures of fall you need to choose the right apparel. Dress for the possibility of a swim; water draws heat away from your body some 25 times more quickly than air. Hypothermia is a real danger in these cooler water temperatures. Insulate your body core and hands and feet with synthetic base layers and neoprene insulation. Cover your insulating layers with waterproof and breathable outerwear like a drytop. And always wear your life jacket and helmet.
