NRS 16' River Cataraft Q: I will be buying a 16' NRS cat. I am looking to upgrade my space. I will buy the cat with the longest frame length. Is it true that the 25" tube has a longer frame capacity than the 28" kodiak or is that a misprint. Asked on 2/20/2013 by none from Big Sky, Mt. Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: The listed "maximum frame lengths" are correct; they're the flat areas on top of the tubes. The River Cat is flat along the entire length of the tube, whereas the Kodiak has a "bullet" shape on both ends. Answered on 2/20/2013 by Clyde from NRS A: This is partially correct. For some reason the Kodiak has only 120" of the wear patch (the black extra piece of rubber on top that is designed to reinforce the places that a fram reguarly rubs the tubes), while the regular 16' tubes have 156" of it. This is what they are referring to in terms of maximum frame length. I have the Kodiak because I wanted the ability to cary heavy gear and it can support much more weight. I had planned to add an extra length of rubber along the top and put a trailer behind the 10' frame, but found that I had plenty of room with the 10' frame and never got around to adding more space. I hope that helps, Answered on 2/20/2013 by Anonymous
NRS 16' River Cataraft Q: can you please provide specs on load capacity vs. tube depth displacement? Asked on 2/12/2013 by pablo from co Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: Pablo, we don't list load capacity on NRS boats; this article explains why - http://www.nrsweb.com/boating_tips/BoatWeightCapacity.asp - Rest assured the 16' River Cat can carry 2-3 people and their gear on extended multiday trips. Check out the reviews for some owner feedback. Answered on 2/12/2013 by Clyde from NRS A: Had three adults and one teenage girl plus day trip gear and 9.9 outboard thru class III river and then motoring across large lake (1.5 hours). NRS 16' River Cataraft Q: Does the price listed include frame? or is this the price for tubes only? Thanks! Asked on 1/16/2013 by Ted from Boulder, CO Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: It's the price of the tubes only. Please be aware that anytime you buy a boat, you receive a 10% discount on all other items you purchase with it, including the frame. Answered on 1/16/2013 by Clyde from NRS
NRS 16' River Cataraft Q: Why would I buy this boat instead of a 16' Aire Jag ? Asked on 1/7/2013 by Canuck from Canada Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Both are excellent cats. River Cats are made with Pennel Orca material, ( http://www.nrsweb.com/tech_talk/pennel_orca.asp), AIRE boats are made with a PVC-coated material. Both materials have their fans. The River Cat has a longer waterline and slightly larger diameter tubes (25" to 24"), so it'll float a bit higher with the same load. You can't go wrong with either one.
