Bought these tubes and a custon Fat Cat frame from Alaska Raft and Kayak. Lengthening the frame to 13 feet allows for ALL KINDS of storage and passenger space. Just returned from the maiden voyage down the Grande Ronde...It performed beautifully. Makes a great fishing platform for two steelhead anglers and a rower...Plus room for all the camping gear and a 65 quart Yeti. It rows great, handles great, and trailers great on a 10 foot ATV trailer. This is truly the best cat money can buy!

I've used one of these for 2 seasons now. 200 miles of Green River, the San Juan, etc. 12' custom NRS breakdown 6 bay frame; but I've used my little Ally Cat frame on it for dailies too. Can't say enough good about it. We've had easily 1200 pounds of people and gear on it for 2 weeks and zero issues. Handles shallows great. Blasts thru the big stuff without hardly getting wet. Got into a camp race one afternoon, as we chugged by a 16' Aire Jag, the guy asked me if I had a motor on the thing. It flies across the flat stretches and is still more maneuverable than any donut boat I've ever rowed. THREE chambers and more carry capacity than all the cats I looked at. If you need a big cat, you've found your boat.

I have used this cat on class 3 rapids with no problem. By adding chairs I was able to take a quadriplegic down the daily run above Moab. Was a great experience for all of those involved.
I must mention that I needed to lengthen the cat by 1 foot to facilitate the above trip. NRS was extremely helpful in the process to the point of cutting four new side bars for me at no cost. NRS is the greatest.

The listed "maximum frame lengths" are correct; they're the flat areas on top of the tubes. The River Cat is flat along the entire length of the tube, whereas the Kodiak has a "bullet" shape on both ends.Answered on 2/20/2013 by Clyde from NRSVERIFIED BUYER

This is partially correct. For some reason the Kodiak has only 120" of the
wear patch (the black extra piece of rubber on top that is designed to
reinforce the places that a fram reguarly rubs the tubes), while the
regular 16' tubes have 156" of it. This is what they are referring to in
terms of maximum frame length. I have the Kodiak because I wanted the
ability to cary heavy gear and it can support much more weight. I had
planned to add an extra length of rubber along the top and put a trailer
behind the 10' frame, but found that I had plenty of room with the 10'
frame and never got around to adding more space.

Both are excellent cats. River Cats are made with Pennel Orca material, (http://www.nrsweb.com/tech_talk/pennel_orca.asp), AIRE boats are made with a PVC-coated material. Both materials have their fans. The River Cat has a longer waterline and slightly larger diameter tubes (25" to 24"), so it'll float a bit higher with the same load.
