Comments about NRS Frame 6" Oar Mount:

I installed oar mounts on my own frame on inflatable RaBoat-487 (16'), and made tour for one week on Kipawa Lake (Canada). The mountains are very good product. I installed two pairs of them - for me and for my wife. Nice. Thanks NRS.

Comments about NRS Frame 6" Oar Mount:

I wanted to be able to row my canoe. These oar mounts were just right to get the oar locks(also purchased at NRS) high enough.

              Q:

on a fat cat frame...what distance should the oar mounts be from the seat bar? Is there a rule of thumb?

Depends on the length of your arms, what is comfortable for you. That's way it is adjustable. Good rafting

I don't know any rule of thumb.  Just sit on the seat and practice "rowing," and you'll get a pretty good idea.  Then when you go on the river, make sure to take tools for adjustments.  Hope this helps.

                A:

Jeffry, it's largely based on personal preference and somewhat on body size. Start out with the oarlock at 12"-14" from the center of the seat bar, then adjust fore or aft for your most efficient rowing stroke. That's the great thing about the NRS frame system, its totally adjustable for your individual needs. Another question we often get is "where on the side rails should the oar mounts be placed?" Physics would dictate that the fulcrum point should be in the exact center of the boat. However, load distribution can alter that for some. And some like to row from the front of a cat. Again, the adjustable frame system helps everyone find their sweet spot.

                A:

A raft frame should be custom fit to the oarsman. The oarlocks should exactly center of boat and the seat and footbar should be adjusted to that based on your size. Always set up your frame for the most powerful oar stroke you will need ( ie. straight-leg power stroke).
