Cataract SGG Counterbalance Shaft with Wrap & Stop
- The SGG shaft, with its spiral wound fiberglass and carbon fiber lay up flexes and rebounds like a wooden oar without the maintenance issues of wood.
- The handle area has a four pound weight added. This counters the weight of the oar out past the oarlock. In a day's rowing, you lift that oar out of the water hundreds of times. This takes a lot of the work out of your outing!
- Shaft comes with rope wrap and rubber stopper, for quiet rowing.
- If you have not previously used rope wrapped oars with your oarlocks, be sure to examine the inside surfaces of the horns for any rough places or imperfections. Using the oars in oarlocks that cause premature wear of the rope wrap may not be covered by warranty.

I was surprised how heavy these felt out of the box, but once in the oarlocks they are sublime. I bought them for my wife's first boat since she doesn't have much arm strength, and now I am jealous. Still has the great feel of standard Cataract shafts.

While I was looking for new oars, I read several blogs. The greater majority raved about the Cataract counter-balanced oars. After finally getting out on the water with them today, I understand what all of the hype was about. These oars have a solid but flexible feel, and they look great, too.

Replaced a set of Carlisle oars with these and they are already paying dividends. Much easier on the arms and elbows and much quieter with the rope wraps. These shafts are tough, they're well-made and they look great. I was a little reluctant at first to get white oars but they really do look good.

I use them on both my wide 16' cat and on my 14' skinny self bailer. I will be order ing anothe pair so I don't have to switch the oars from boat to boat.
They are great on the flat water and rock it through the rapids, I don't have one complaint about them other than I need another pair!

The wrap and rubber stop is all u need. I still use oar rights to keep the blades from twisting sideways in the water when im on anchor. I have them placed high enough on the oar shaft so they arent in my way when im rowing.Answered on 4/4/2013 by AnonymousVERIFIED BUYER
