Glued them on my new Cataract oar blades and they fit perfect without any extra bulk. Probably not totally necessary, but I'm thinking will double the life of the oar tips, which get the brunt of the abuse in rivers.

As an owner of 6, 6"-blade cataract oars, all with protectors, I don't
believe the protectors would stay on a 5" blade. They are extremely tight
and difficult to get on a 6" blade, but they have come off in certain
situations. Even if they "seemed" to fit on the 5" blade, the plastic isn't
very flexible and the shape of the curve wouldn't adjust to the smaller
blade, so I think water would get under them and break the friction "seal"
