I thought I was in for a fight

Comments about NRS Small Molded Oar Sleeve:

When I first looked at these I thought I'd be in for a fight to get them on the oar shaft. I started at the end of the oar, did not use any lube (soapy water, hair spray, etc.) and spread the sleave with a flat wide blade screwdriver. When I got the open wide enough I slid it over the handle and forceably worked it down to the mark I'd made. Because of the material they are made of they slide easy enough. I did not want them to reposition themselves so I secured them with clamping down the oar stop over the sleaves.
Not such a battle after all and they work fine.

Comments about NRS Small Molded Oar Sleeve:

Installed these on Mini Magnum oars to add protection to the shafts at the oar locks. First impression was the heavy duty poly plastic material would be very durable but stiff and hard to spread apart to slip on the shafts. But will the use of a small putty knife to start the spreading, the sleeves parted an inch or so--just enough to get them started on the shaft. They were then quickly slipped into postion. I am using them with Oar-Rights which alone do not clamp the sleeves tightly enough to hold them on place on the shafts. But adding a hose clamp at the top of the sleeves solved that problem.

Comments about NRS Small Molded Oar Sleeve:

I actually use the product for my rowboat oars. I'm ordinarily fishing from a rowboat on reservoirs, which don't allow electric or gas engines. The oar sleeves are ideal for protecting my expensive wood spoon oars from rubbing on the gunnel. Also, they effectively decrease the sound of the oars scraping the gunnel, consequently ensuring a quiet approach to catching fish! Great product; I own three pairs!

Yes. I have sawyer SST oars and these sleeves do fit them. Shaft diameter
for the SSTs is 1 1/4.

Yes, they will fit. They'll stay in place most securely with the Small Plastic Oar Stoppers, Item # 1400 or Small Oar Rights, Item # 1404, over them.

I have these mounted on 1-3/8" diameter Cataract oars (Mini Mags). There is a 3/8" gap between the long edges of the sleeves. Some arithmetic calculating the circumference of the two oar diameters should come up with the answer whether there will be a gap on you 1-1/4" oars. I found that spreading the sleeves apart with a putty knife helped a lot when first starting them on Mini Mags. Good luck.
