If you have an older NRS raft with the old, flat battens, this is a necessary upgrade. The older ones don't have the "lip" on them like this new version has. The lip keeps the batten in place no matter how hard your crew pushes their shins and calves into your thwart's attachment points. Bottom line: The old style ones pop out, these don't.

NRS replaced original batton, which broke in a particularly stressful rapid. The new one appears to be more substantial, installed easily, and works flawlessly.
