Comments about New Short Halkey-Roberts Valve:

The Halkey-Roberts air valves are sturdy and well made. I used them to replace similar valves that had been in use for 15 years.

My wife's 15 year old WaterWolf inflatable kayak would not hold air. It appeared that the air valves were leaking around the valve seats.

The kind people at WaterWolf suggested that I get replacement valves from NRS. The WaterWolf people patiently explained how to make the replacements. On their advice, i also purchased the Halkey-Roberts valve wrench.

Replacement of the valves in the WaterWolf is not a completely obvious job. Without the advice from the WaterWolf people it would have been difficult and possibly unsuccessful. However, once the new valves were in position, completion of the installation was simple.

I strongly recommend the Halkey-Roberts valve wrench. The wrench greatly simplifies removal and replacement of the valves.

The good news is that the replacement of the valves was completely successful and the WaterWolf is now as good as new.

NRS was helpful with the order process and delivered the valves ahead of promised schedule. This has been a good experience all-around.

I had a problem finding a replacement valve to fix a broken stem for my Sevylor SVX200DS inflatable kayak. Even the manufacturer couldn't help. NRS came through with an ideal replacement valve which fit perfectly with the base of my old valve. No need for cutting a new hole or patching the kayak. Thanks very much.

These are great valves. You'll need to get some polyurethane so you can cut a doughnut about 2" bigger in diameter than HR valve. So steps are:
1 Push HR valve base thru hole in raft. hole should be marginally larger than Shaft diameter
2 cut and glue 1-2 "doughnuts" to inside of hole and let cement set. I use some wax paper inside to be sure I don't inadvertently glue walls of inflatable to each other.
3 remove wax paper, push valve shaft out of hole. Apply Plumbers Goop to underside of HR flange and tighten down with supplied (?) wrench.
                            4 Next day, Go fishin'
                            Hope this helps

Nick, you could use the New Short Valve. However, if it were me I'd put in a Leafield C7, Item # 1582. I think it's a better valve. Hmm, if you've eliminated the valve as a source of the leak, it must be in the tube material. I assume you've been using a soapy water solution to check for leaks. Sometimes this isn't sufficient to find a veeeery slow leak. Go to your pharmacy and buy some glycerin. Add it to your soap solution or just make a strong solution of it in water. It will give you a much stronger, higher surface-tension bubble. Inflate the tube to as high a pressure as is safe and go over the entire surface, including the valve, with the solution. Please give us a call, 800.635.5202, if we can help further. Good Luck!

                            A:

Yes, you can. Simply unthread the top half (with the valve) and thread the
new piece in. You will need to hold the bottom half in place unless its
glued in. I find it easier to do if the boat is deflated. There is a tool
that inserts into the top half to make it easier to unthread. NRS sells it.
It's not required if you can unthread the top half by hand.

Yes..as long as the threads are the same. Just carefully unscrew the outter piece and screw in the new valve. There is a special tool for tightening it used in the factory but you can hand tighten and then carefully use a pair of adjustable pliers to grib the edge and tighten.
There is no gasket, the under side of the outter edge is made to seal the fabric between inner and outter valve parts.
If the threads don't match then write back and I can tell you a little trick that will allow you to take out the inner piece and install the new one.

Easy and cheap repair! That's a Halkey valve--you'll have to unscrew the top part of the existing valve with the halkey tool (spanner), followed by getting the backing piece out. This has to be turned sideways to deliver the wide part of the flange at the same time folding the inflatable fabric to make the hole wider. lnsert the new backing piece in the reverse order, then tighten the outer piece with the spanner wrench. You have to prevent the backing piece from turning by "pinching" from outside of the inflatable tube. Takes just a few minutes. Good luck! PJ

I hope this answer will be useful to the person with the Seaworthy
                            inflatable.
My wife has a 20-year old Water Wolf inflatable. It is basically two
inflatable pontoons cleverly lashed together. Each has an inflator valve. It
appeared to be leaking around the valve seats. I bought two short
Halkey-Roberts valves from NWR to replace the old valves in the Water Wolf.
In the Water Wolf, the valves are installed in the bladder that is inside of
the thick, tough outer fabric of the pontoon. This requires removing the old
two-part valve, carefully installing the inside-the-bladder part of the new
valve, lining up the valve opening in the bladder with that in the outer
shell and then tightening the two parts of the valve to seal valve and
                            bladder.
The Water Wolf has a zipped and pretty well hidden pocket that when opened
gives access to the bladder at the location of the valve. This greatly
facilitated the valve replacement. I am guessing that the Seaworthy will
                            have a similar arrangement.
I recommend buying the valves and trying to make the repair. Also, buy the
valve wrench to use while loosening the old valves and tightening the new.
It is not absolutely necessary but it certainly makes those operations a lot
                            easier to accomplish.
NWR was great. They promptly filled my order and delivered the valves and
wrench ahead of promised date. All-in-all, the new valves saved our summer
on the river in Montana. We are on our second 20 years with the Water Wolf!
                            Good luck with the repair.
