I'm amazed that this wrench is made withoout any way to turn it. I drilled a 5/16" hole in the end of the wrench so that I could put a solid steel rod through it to get some serious leversge. Then it was fine, although I couldn't get the valve to unscrew no matter how much force I used. I was warned by the experts that getting an H-R valve out isn't easy. They were right.

I chose the metal valve tool when I purchased the valves for my inflatable dinghy and this well designed and made tool made the job very simple and quick. I highly recommend spending the extra money over the plastic unit.

Metal valve tool fits all halkey Roberts valves. Suggest the metal one as some of the valves can be a real bear. Good luck

The spanners are universal for the old and new H-K valve. I'd recommend getting the metal spanner (#14742) as some of the valves are in tight. You may need to drill a hole thru the handle of the spanner so you can insert a screwdriver for extra leverage.
Difference between the old and new HK valves is related to the depth of the recess (old is 5/8", new is 7/8"), but this is unrelated to the spanner needed as the valve internal diameter is the same.
