This adapter makes a secure fit between my Wonder Pump and Trib. Tomcat. While the Wonder Pump has a connector that fits the valves, this one is much more secure, keeping the connection strong inspite of movement.
It works great.

I was excited to see an adapter that I could put in my valve and attach a tube to it for better inflation. I was also excited that I wouldn't need someone to hold the hose tube while I pumped with both hands. While the NRS site is very clear that this is "the new" design, I have no idea whether the valve in my boat is "the new" design or "the old" design. The boat instructions say that it is a Summit 2 valve. Because I haven't heard of a Summit 3 valve, I bought it and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, it didn't stay in the valve very well when I attempted to use it. It was far easier to have someone hold the tube while I pumped. It was cheap and worth a shot.

A:
Will, there's no crossbar inside the adapter and no need for one. The Summit valve has a spring loaded stem, with a rubber seal on the end. When you push down on the stem and turn it clockwise the rubber seal is raised to close the valve and prevent air from escaping. The valve adapter prongs lock the adapter in place, with that blue ring pressed against the valve opening to provide a good outer seal. As you pump, the air pressure pushes the inner rubber seal open, letting air into the chamber. When you stop pumping the rubber seal closes, trapping the air. So, as you remove the adapter, no air is escaping.Answered on 3/14/2013 by Clyde from NRS
