Comments about NRS Pike Fishing Inflatable Kayak:

When properly inflated the Pike is surprisingly rigid. The skeg set up helps it track well for an IK. Great storage & load capacity. The boat bag that comes with it is nice, but unfortunately just too tight to actually use as a boat bag. I load all my gear in it throw it over my shoulders and carry the boat with straps.

I like the rig so well that I am planning on buying another.

Comments about NRS Pike Fishing Inflatable Kayak:

Great boat. My first inflatable. So far has shown to be a perfect bass fishing boat. Been in the ocean twice and punctured pretty easily on barnacles. Not quite as durable as I was hoping, but was easy to repair.

Comfortable, I am 225lbs, out of shape and inflexible and I can spend 8 hrs fishing in this boat easily.

As for stability, standing and casting is fairly easy in flat water but not really an option if waves or wake are present. Works well as a SUP.

Comments about NRS Pike Fishing Inflatable Kayak:

A lot of kayak anglers won't even consider an inflatable kayak for fishing. Those guys are also missing out on river fishing on those holes behind the Class III and higher rapids. They're also hauling around their hard-to-store-without-a-garage hard plastic kayaks in trucks that get gas milage in the low teens. They're missing out on a kayak that can fit in a backpack and fit in the trunk of even some of the smallest cars - or even on the bus. It's called the NRS Pike.

2000 denier PVC is tough. The downside, of course, is weight. 50lbs isn't light for an IK, but it is light for a purpose built fishing kayak. This kayak is awesome. I have mine rigged out with a drift anchor for river steelheading, and a GPS/fishfinder for all my still water fishing. It got a lot of looks, and applause even, on the sturgeon opener on the Willamette.

The kayak is super manueverble on the small rivers, allowing me to eddy turns and peel outs with ease. Being an IK, its also crazy stable, so I can do the peel outs without fear, and stand up and do plenty of sight casting and fly fishing successfully. Usually maneuverabilty comes at the cost of straight line tracking. Not the case with the Pike, it tracks great in open and moving water alike. It responds well to all paddle commands.

My traditional SOT fishing kayaks are now gathering dust. Just throw the Pike in the backseat, all my fishing gear up front, and I'm good to go. I only wish the kayak had foot braces and a thicker seat bottom. I'll be ordering a set of glue on braces soon, and I'm still debating how to raise the seat - there are a few options there

Billy, foot braces do give you better control of your boat. We don't yet have specific foot brace kits for the Pike, but you can install the MaverIK Foot Braces, Item # 1653, using Stabond Adhesive, Item # 1903.

I do multi-day trips in Alaska, on small to medium sized rivers. Would the Pike stand up to this type of usage? If my transportation is suspect, I'd be up a creek, so to speak. I HAVE to have durability on a trip like this, will this fit the bill?

The Pike is a tough, well-made boat that should be fine for multiday trips. It has tiedown points that are excellent for attaching your gear.

Guy at the Moscow shop said this was made out of the Hyphalon-type material and that PVC kayaks needed internal bladders. Specs say this is PVC. How do you keep the air in it if it is PVC? Rubber coated internals?

The Pike is made with PVC-coated fabrics. PVC doesn't hold air as well as some other types of materials. We help mitigate that with internal seam taping and other design features.

Just found this e-mail, and so haven't put a tape on the bag and boat, but I currently have my Pike, my foot pump, fifty feet of anchor line and 10 feet of chain, a Scotty Rod Holder, A Scotty Anchor Roller (& mounts for both) the Repair Kit, not accessory bags that came with the Boat, a Stormy Seas Vest, and a set of Simms waders in the main Compartment of the bag that comes with the Boat. The Skegs and plenty more fit in the outside pocket of the Bag, and the Seat and Paddle strap to the outside.
Again, without putting a tape on it, The bag is probably not quite 4 feet tall, maybe 18-20 inches wide and maybe 15-18 inches deep.
Fits easily into a trunk, or backseat, and the boat itself can be rolled to 2/3 the height if the bag, and anything else packed seperately.
            Hope this helps.

There is room in the Pike for two people. The boat, as it comes, is configured for one person. The seat is anchored to D-rings. To reconfigure it for two people you would probably want to add new D-rings to make room to move the existing seat back and make a place for a front seat.

With everything properly inflated at recommended pressure, I have no problem with two people plus gear for a total of 425 pounds. Keep in mind that the kayak is self bailing, so as you add more weight you will get a wet seat. I would guess you could load to 500 pound without issue as far as stability is concerned. It is also important to note that the tracking with the long skeg installed is fantastic.
