Comments about PTK Kayak Paddle 45°:

I've had this paddle for about five years. Even though I mainly paddle late April to late September, it has seen an abundance of use from the lake to class III+. Even though it is severely scratched there is no breaks. However, as a con, the blades are riveted on and one of them is starting to loosen. I know it COULDN'T be from it smasshing against rocks because kayakers don't do that sort of thing. I've now saved my "allowance money" and am upgrading, but would recommend this paddle, especially to someone on a budget.

Comments about PTK Kayak Paddle 45°:

This is the second year I have been using this paddle for white water and I have been happy with it. Unfortunately, on one rafting trip, down the Rogue River, my friend and I both ended up breaking this paddle.

Comments about PTK Kayak Paddle 45°:

I use this with my inflatable kayak. The longer shaft length makes this a good paddle for IK's. The blade seems slightly smaller than I like but the weight and overall quality of the paddle is good.

I'm a beginner paddler and the day I got my paddle nailed my first roll. Used it on a class 3 run in Trinity Co., CA. It's a good paddle and I like the grip on the shaft. I t helps you keep your hand on the right spot on the paddle. Great paddle for a good price!

This is a great entry level paddle. The 210 cm would be a good length for him.

For a recreational paddle or whitewater paddle I would recommend the
Northwest River supply (google NRS) and buy a PTK in 198cm size. I
bought one and am very pleased with it.It is low cost and is very
                durable.
                Happy Paddling!

Hi Kari. We have an Aire tandem ducky that we use two of these paddles for. I am 5'2 and the paddle is perfect for me but I think the length of the paddle is more dependent on the width of the raft. The paddle is very light weight and the perfect length to paddle our ducky.

It would probably be a good choice. These paddles are pretty
indestructible. Also, a twelve year old isn't going to notice the
difference between this one and one that's four times the cost. I would go
with the 210 cm size, or if you think he's gonna grow a lot soon then the
                220 cm.

While I am no expert on paddles especially in relation to IKs, I bought this paddle severeal years ago to use with a whitewater hardshell kayak. I was at beginner level at the time and have since moved up and upgraded all of my equipement except for the paddle (due to the cost of better paddles). I've been very impressed with this paddle's performance and durability since it has seen anything from flatwater to class IV and has been drug over many rocks and slides. It's relatively light and for the price is a pretty good buy. I would think this would suffice for a 12 year old in an IK. I am 5'10" and use the 197, which is just a tad too long for my preferences Being that the inflatable boat is wider I would think he would need the 200cm, but then again I am no expert. I would suggest finding that length paddle for him to borrow and see if he needs it to be longer or shorter. Otherwise, if you don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on a paddle, I would recommend the PTK.
