          Comments about Bungee Cord:

As you can tell, I'm a fan of this bungee cord from NRS.
I bought a bit to replace length on my kayak a few years ago.
Then it occurred to me that it comes in three sizes, I can get whatever lengths I want. Bungee cords are much more expensive, and shorter and hard to customize. With these you can make your own custom bungees. The service is always great. Product quality is always great.

              Comments about Bungee Cord:

Product was just as described, and was "burned" on both ends to keep from fraying. I received about a foot more than ordered which was helpful. Bungee is stronger than what I have stock and able to be "cinched" down very tightly. My new deck rigging looks stock and works very well!

              Service and delivery comments:

Product was delivered as promised. Excellent customer service!

                  Q:

What is the construction of the bungee cord? What is the core material? Is the core material coated with another material?

                    A:

The core is rubber. It is covered by fabric with a weave that allows it to stretch along with the rubber. It is quite durable.

                    A:

All bungee cord I have ever used is made up of many fine strands of rubber
covered with a fabric, the individual strands of rubber are not coated. The
rubber under the fabric cover looks much like stranded copper electrical
wire that is covered with a vinyl plastic. The numerous strands make it more
                    flexible.

                    A:

The core material is a white elastic. There is an outer sleeve of
braided material which is probably polyester -- be sure you seal/melt the
ends well or they will unravel a bit.

It depends on preference, what your carrying usually thicker the better

At 1,034 lbs. tensile strength, the 4-mm is plenty strong enough. Some kayakers use bungee cord, of which we carry three diameters.

I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you about this question on bungee
cord thickness. For deck lines as well as bungee cords I always try to use
1/8", this is what came on my P&H kayaks and I just think it is more elegant
than the thicker ones, on trips it always has been strong enough to hold
anything I've placed under it but as a rule I try and keep the deck as
uncluttered as possible for windage reasons.
