  • NRS Tyrant 4 Inflatable SUP Board

    Q:

Could you surf the tyrant behind a boat

      A:

If you are referring to towing it behind a power boat, I wouldn't recommend it. The handle on the front of the board, where you'd have to attach the tow rope, isn't designed for that stress.

Is there a power inflatable pump available?

Patrick, check out the Bravo High-Pressure Pump, Item # 1706. Just set the pressure desired (up to 15 psi) and the pump does the rest.

  • NRS Tyrant 4 Inflatable SUP Board

    Q:

I have the big earl (great purchase by the way) but looking for something for ocean surfing. Although I live in Colorado and will absolutely use it in rivers. Would there be any advantage to using the larger model even though I am below the weight limit of 190. (i weigh 170. )I will also share the board w my son who is even lighter. The big earl is great in the river and the lake but I really like to surf the ocean. Inflatables are just so easy to travel with I really want one for surf travel. I have found that hard boards are easier and much more responsive in waves and want something that will come close to that feel. Thank you

      A:

You and your son are well within the suggested weight range for the Tyrant. For a relative beginner at ocean surfing the more stable Czar will be the better choice. For someone more skilled the Tyrant will give better performance; it might present a steeper learning curve for the beginner. The Tyrant will give a closer feeling to a hard board.

    Q:

I'm looking at getting either a Tyrant or a Czar...Im about 155lbs and I would really like to learn how to surf. Im running mostly class II and occasionally class III water also so I would like a board that is capable or river running as well. I am stepping down from a ~10'6" foot inflatable...which one of these would be better for me? I really like the idea of a bigger, burlier board but I still want to be able to surf and put some focus into that this year. Thanks for the advice!

      A:

D Money, the Tyrant is good for folks up to 190 pounds, so unless you're planning on packing on gear it should be fine for you, for surfing and your river running. Have fun!

    Q:

I'm looking for an inflatable that I can use for lake cruising and boat wake surfing. Will this handle both?

      A:

This should do the job for you. With it's length it won't track quite as well as the longer boards but it comes with 9", 5" and 2" fins which will let you adjust to get the best combo for straight-ahead paddling. If you weigh more than 190 pounds you should instead choose the Czar.

    Q:

What is the recommended weight limit for this board?
Asked on 3/20/2013 by Jason from New Hampshire

      A:

Jason, you'll get best performance out of the Tyrant with folks 190 pounds or less in weight. For larger paddlers, the Czar has similar lines, with extra flotation.
