Comments about NRS Big Sur River Board - Closeout:

We mostly use these on The Esopus Creek for both dam release weekends as well as lower flow days; they're versatile and a nice alternative to kayaks.

With fins (I prefer Churchill or the rubber ones NRS sells), you can navigate with ease and surf waves too.

The ROI on the price of entry is well worth it.

I've used the board in both rivers and the ocean.

Compared to inflatable kayaks, they are super stable. The only time my wife fell off of hers is when I convinced her it would be fun to jump off of a rock into the middle of a rapid and she landed sideways.

I'll buy two more when my kids are old enough for it, they are tons of fun, extremely stable and take up no room in my garage.

I used it the first time in the ocean with nice 5' waves. The amount of boyancy makes catching waves easy, especially compared to traditional boogie boards. We'll be taking them on the Deschutes this weekend and I'm sure I'll contintue to be impressed.

What is the warrenty for this board? Is it durable enough to last multiple seasons in class 3-4 water or should I just invest in a solid board?

When I received the boards and looked at them I immediately sent them back. I was not impressed with the quality of them. I did not feel comfortable with the quality of them. I will be buying the hard boards this spring.

Unfortunately, it only lasted me a few uses until the glue holding some
seams inside came unglued. I had to throw it away. Also, it is about as
manueverable as an 18 foot oar rig. :( not stiff either.

Jules, I do not know what the warranty is of this board. I do know mine
appears durable from the materials to the construction. I've only had it
one season used it well and it shows no wear. I would think that it will
last several seasons similar to inflatable kayaks in the materials and
construction and I've had an AIR for 15 years.... or more. I'd be surprise
if it does not last your expected multiple seasons. And it works well,
                becomes very stiff/firm.

Hi Jules - Keep in mind that this is an inflatable device. The cover
seems relatively durable but if you make a habit of running over exposed
rocks, tree limbs and gravel, expect it to wear down faster than if you
avoid contact with same. As far as being able to withstand standing
waves, ripples and other WATERY obstacles? No problem. The fact that
it is inflatable will allow it to flex and rebound off anything you put
it through. I've used mine in the ocean in fairly rough surf and it has
                performed admirably.

Kyle, you want to put about 2.5 psi air pressure in the board for good performance. Not knowing what kind of pump you have, I can't say how it will work for the Big Sur. An economical hand pump that will work very well is the Wonder Pump 6, Item # 1701.

Kyle, you'll certainly want a helmet. Our elbow pads are also a good safety accessory. And, since you're always immersed in the water, you'll want to dress for the water temperature. If you're boating in cold water, neoprene garments can offer some impact protection. Boat Safe!

A wet suit would be essential, other than that I would suggest a paddle
leash or rope to keep you and the river board together in the event of a
spill or walking about in the river.

You need a wetsuit, helmet, neoprene swimmer gloves. In my opinion the
fins can be replaced by a sturdy pair of neoprene booties when you not
running bigwater. Infact, my experiance was that the fins were dangerous
and came off easily on small rocky rivers. On those rivers you might also
consider padded contact sporting gear to wear as well, especially to
protect the knees, outside of the thighs and shins, and fore-arms. This
board is not very maneaverable or stiff. I only used it for only a few
times before the glue holding the internal bladder's shape came undone
renduring it useless. In my opinion, this is the worst product NRS ever
                created. Get a plastic riverboard.

Depends on the river, That's all you "need." We put leashes on our boards
and fins. We've got wetsuits for rivers, even if they aren't cold, your
knees will hit rocks in shallow rapids. We also wear helments in rivers,
but not in the ocean. And a good paddling pfd is always a must.

Its about 2 ft x 3ft and it comes with the bag. If you deflate using the pump you can easily fit your flippers and pump not to mention your shin guards and neoprene suit. Small enough to fit in the cockpit of a kayak if struggling for space. Its a great investment and ultra durable. Fyi does not come with the pump but most inflatable specialty stores can get or make you one. Make sure you get the c7 valve.

Packaged here on the shelf the deflated board measures 13" x 21" x 4". The carry bag that comes with it is very generously sized so it'll accommodate a less tightly folded board. There's also a big outer zippered pocket, a hand carry handle and a shoulder carry strap.
