Our choice for unsurpassable adhesion. Mix Clifton Accelerator with Clifton Hypalon Adhesive for a better bond and faster cure time.
  • Ratio: 0.8 oz. Accelerator to 1 Gal. of Adhesive.

  • Be sure to follow ratio instructions carefully. Too much accelerator will de-activate the glue.

  • Clifton Accelerator can be mixed with Clifton Urethane Adhesive. It will not increase the bond strength, but will increase heat and chemical resistance of the bond. If the material bonded will be subjected to temperatures greater than 140 degrees F, use of the accelerator is recommended.

  • Shelf Life: Good as Long as Liquid Still Remains
  • Includes Instruction Sheet and MSDS Sheet
  • Shelf Life: Good as Long as Liquid Still Remains
  • Comes with Measuring Pipet
  • Mixing Ratio is 0.8 oz. (24 mm) of Accelerator for Every Gallon (128 oz.) of Adhesive

I have patched many boats and never had the positive results that I did with this product. Did repairs in the bahamas where the boat sits on the beach in sun and heat. These repairs were done two years ago and are still perfect. If you aren't getting this to work properly you are doing something wrong. Humidity is a huge problem so follow the directions! Don't bother if above 70% you are just gonna fail! Yes it was a pain in the butt to pull boat inside and inflate but it was worth it. Either do it right or don't bother. I wish I could give this product 10 stars!

              Comments about Clifton Hypalon Accelerator:

I bought this accelerator to add to Hypalon® Adhesive because it was recommended if would be exposed to sunlight. I followed directions when I glued PVC oarlocks to an Outcast pontoon boat. The oarlocks had stiff ribs and this glue never set-up completely and ended up using duct tape! What a mess. These were not inexpensive products and I am very disappointed in the results I got.

                Q:

Ratio is .8 oz to 1 gallon, but when doing one small patch and mixing in a separate throw away container, does that ratio work out to be about a few drops?

I had a similar question. Then I found some small glass measuring items in
a cooking supply store for a dollar or so.
I decided to use an oz glue and mix with .1875mm on the pipet which is what
24mm/128oz works out to be. At least I think thats a marking on the pipet
as I don't have one to look at.
I had problems until I was extra careful about humidity
                  Hope this helps

Your are absolutely correct, "just a little dab will do ya." The catalyst is actually necessary for the strongest bond.
A couple other things: 1) after you use the eyedropper flush it out with alcohol, acetone, or MEK just so none of the catalyst dries inside the dropper which will make it useless for measurements; and 2) use electrical tape to wrap around the cap that screws onto the catalyst bottle after each time you open the bottle to minimize potential evaporation of the catalyst.. Nothing is worse than having everything set and prepped only to find that small bottle of catalyst is nothing but dried crystals. In fact, I keep the catalysts for all the glues I use in the fridge or freezer.
                  Good luck.

Volumetrically, that ratio is 155:1. A drop of water is about 40
microliter, so one drop to 6.2ml, or about 5 drops to an ounce. A drop of
accelerator is probably smaller than a drop of water (water has surface
tension to hold the drop together), so you could raise that to 6 or 7 drops
                  per ounce probably.
A better way is to do it is by weight. Given the differing densities of the
two materials, I once calculated the weight ratio at 111:1. If you've got a
postal scale, or a good food scale, you can do this pretty accurately.

Yep. The accelerator comes with a handy cheat sheet telling you how many
drops. The dropper also has measurements on it. I used a little mix
bucket from the paint store that had measurements on the side. Hope that
                  helps.

                  A:

Yes. There is a ratio cheat sheet and a plastic dropper supplied with the accelerator, usually attached to the MSDS for the accelerator.  It gives the amount of adhesive + milliliters of accelerator or the approximate number of drops.

Mason, on the product page, look down in the More Information box above the video links and click on the "Clifton Accelerator" link. There you'll see complete instructions and mixing ratios. And we supply that graduated pipette shown in the photo to help with measuring.

Do you add the accelerator to the can of adhesive or do you have to mix in a separate container?

What if you add to the container and do not use all of the adhesive right away, does it go bad?

You need to mix it in a separate container. An accelerator will cause
the glue to cure very quickly. so unless you need to use the whole can
of glue right away, you want to mix it in small batches.
I bought a bunch of little plastic mixing trays that are basically the
plastic end-caps used for cardboard mailing tubes for posters.

Eric, once you mix Accelerator with the adhesive you have about a four hour use period. After that the adhesive sets up and is unusable. In the More Information block on the product page, there's a full instruction sheet in the link "Clifton Accelerator."

if you plan to use all of the adhesive in one sitting you can do that but if only using small portion of thr adhesive I would only add it to what you are going to use that day

Use small batches of glue/accelerator- it says on the container how long
the mix is usable. Once mixed, it doesn't "keep" for long, so estimate how
much mix you'll use for a particular job and only mix what you can use in
                  the allotted time.

Read the directions for using the accelerator again.  I'm quoting here:

The shelf life of the glue is approximately one (1) year.  The accelerator will stay good as long as it is liquid.  Don't add accelerator to glue that you're not planning on using.

I wouldn't add the accelerator directly to the adhesive unless you're sure
you'll use the entire container. Instead I'd mix it on something
non-reactive and go from there. A bit messier, but you save product and
it's also easier to ensure a good uniform mix.
                  Good luck!

Yes, always use a separate container when you're not going to use all or the
adhesive in the can. Plus it's easier to mix outside of the can. And,
think of the accelerator as a catalyst this will cause your adhesive to
harden (or dry) without air, so you have to use it. Throw away any adhesive
that's been mixed with an accelerator that you're not going to use, it will
                  start to harden!
