I started out using this hat paddling white water. NowI wear it for all coldwater cold weather paddling as well as other cold weather sports like hiking and cycling.
The hat fits snug enough to perform well but does not feel tight or constricting. I have worn it for several hours at a time and my head never itched.I love that the small vent holes around the ears allow for great hearing.
So far I have no negative comment.

Great cold weather (40 degree range) hat. Has ear holes on both sides but with wind whistling through, it makes hearing difficult. That's a small price to pay for a warm head.

The NRS Mystery Sea Hood with Bill performs as advertised. My ears' sensitivity to wind and cold had sometimes limited my paddling to warm weather, or required bulkier, cumbersome balaclavas or hats. But the lightweight, comfortable Sea Hood takes care of the problem with ease. It has enough flexibility that my shoulder-length hair will fit easily underneath it, yet snug enough to keep out even a steady wind on the water. As a recreational kayaker I have not yet learned to roll, so I haven't tested the Sea Hood for warmth in the water. I have paddled in rain and wind-driven spray, and the hood kept my head (and especially my ears!) warm, dry, and comfortable so that I can now pursue the sport I love longer, and in more inclement weather than before. Kudos to NRS for this fine product!

I measured my head. I'm 23.5 inches. I never released or thought about a
head's circumference.
I just tried my hood on again. The hood's not tight, but slight pressure
on the ears. No big red marks on my forehead nor hat head because I'm bald.
