I use these for general whitewater kayaking, surfing, roll/flatwater practice. The water here is generally cold enough to mess with my equilibrium if I don't wear earplugs.
The string is nice because you can let one plug dangle for most flatwater/easier sections to be able to hear other paddlers/the river/etc., then quickly eddy out to put it in before sections with more splash.
Make sure if you do use the string that you actually knot it on the plug end rather than just sticking it in the end, because you'll quickly lose your plugs.

Sooo comfortable, easy to put in and take out (be sure to grab the stem to remove the plug) These make rolling and cold water a joy.

Mack's ear plugs are the only plugs I have ever found that do not break a seal when I turn my head under water. Pre wetting them before putting them in your ears with water or spit allows them to make a real tight water seal. I have bought every ear plug on the market before finally finding Mack's. I usually pull out the string/leash that they come with because they stick so well in your ear that there's no way you lose one in fast paced waterspots. Thanks Mack's and NRS for this great product!
