Comments about NRS 1" PVC Dry Bag D-Rings:

When outfitting my Old Town Camper I wanted a secure method to tie down gear. I opted for the NRS D-rings. My canoe is made out of royalex so this was the best solution. Using the adhesive I positioned 8 rings which gave me plenty of tie down options.

Comments about NRS 1" PVC Dry Bag D-Rings:

The PVC patch is thin and flexible which is good for dry bags. I used them in a canoe and wished they would have been thicker - they would have been easier to work with.

I received two dry bags as gifts - being in NYC it is great to have one for my swim gear and another for Bikram yoga. I ordered a D-ring for each of the bags to make the bags easier to carry on mass transit.

I glued 4 of these in my Old Town Royalex canoe prior to a challenging back country canoe trip in northern Ontario, Canada. They performed exactly as I had hoped and held my gear securely.

                                Q:

I need 1" D-rings to tie airbags down to the floor of an ABS canoe, but don't see such on your site. Are these dry bag ones sturdy enough for that?

                                  A:

I have almost no idea about the canoe. My somewhat unusual
application involved having an anchoring point for deck lines on
a skin-over-frame kayak. After spending some time wondering
about whether the adhesive would hold up if I attached the rings
to the outside of the kayak, I realized that the stronger
solution would be to cut slits in the skin of the boat and put
the attachment patches on the inside with the D-rings going
through the skin. That essentially eliminated the strength
issue because about all the adhesive had to do was to keep
things together and keep the water out.
No problems with that. In your situation, I think the real
question would be about the holding strength of the adhesive --
the D-rings and their attachment straps themselves seem quite
strong, so the key question would be whether the patches would
stay attached to the ABS under whatever stresses the airbags are
subject to (or cause). And I can't even guess at that.

I have done it on several canoes. Use vira bond may not be spelled correct.  The only time I put a better "D" ring down is to hold myself in with thigh straps. I do find after a year or two you need to reglue.

They are plenty tough for that application. I suggest using G/flex Epoxy 655, Item # 2272, for gluing them on.

They will be plenty sturdy, I have been using them for airbags in my canoe
for years. Be sure to use the plenty of Vynabond and you will be all set.

I would say yes. For security I would use 4 of them: two at each end of the airbag.

Yes these work just fine. Between the lacing
across the gunnels and one of these per bag
In the floor, you should be good to go.
Select adhesive to go with it and rough up the back of
the ring patch and the floor at the desired location.
