However, it meets Coast Guard requirements for Type III PFDs when it is worn. In other words, you have to have the pouch secured around your waist for it to qualify as a required flotation device.

I purchased this item for fly fishing float trips as local regulations require life jackets for the fall - spring to be worn. These offer a great alternative to bulkier PFDs and allow me to better control the boat and the sport to fish more freely. I tested in the river and was very impressed with the ease of use and the recharge ease.

Is this confortable and durable enough to use repeatedly for packraft trips. That means wearing while paddling all day? Will it withstand many uses? If in no hurry, can you inflate it sufficiently without the CO2 on a regular basis? Brad, a self inflating PFD is designed to be inflated and donned just when needed in a swim; I would not recommend it for all-day wear. It's plenty durable for multiple inflation cycles and you can readily inflate it by mouth. With the CO2 cylinder the PFD weighs 1.7 pounds. It is certified by the US Coast Guard as a Type V PFD; a category they use for "special purpose personal flotation devices." However, it meets the Coast Guard requirement for a Type III PFD when it is worn on your person. When you're in the water you just make sure the pouch is in front and pull to inflate. The inflated collar pops up in front of you, then you simply pull it over your head. The lifejacket inflates ... slowly but steadily. It does not inflate like
