too much of the floatation is in the chest, which makes it very bulky compared to others I've used. Also the overall feel of it is cheap.

I would not recommed for ladies, my girlfriend tried it on and she hated it due to how much floatation is in the front.

The "pillow" float, is almost non existant in terms of floatation. Purly there so it can be called a Class V, while adding very little function.

The buckels are hard to get to clip together, but will probably break in over time.

I also tried it out, I'm 6'4 about 220. And even for me the amount of floatation up front is way too much.

The old America's Cup, and other universal Class V PFD's that used to be avaialbe fit much better and were built better.

Note I've been guiding for 11 years now. I would not recommened these, they need to be redesigned.

The vest does have lots of padding in the front, but when my kayak flipped near a big hole I was really glad to have it! The padding doesn't restrict movement at all and I found it very comfortable to wear.

Comments about NRS Big Water V PFD:

I am not a great swimmer, but I felt very confident that if I got tossed in a rapid on the 'River of No Return," I would be supported and bouyed. Didn't get tossed, but others in our group did, and they were cradled by this same PFD.

          In whitewater, size matters

Comments about NRS Big Water V PFD:

After being tossed into a strong eddy, experiencing strong suction, I decided that the river should have to work harder to drag me into its depths. With this PFD, I bob about like a cork. I haven't been maytagged yet, but I'm hoping huge flotation can't hurt. I had a problem with a red PFD bleeding onto my clothing and NRS cheerfully exchanged it although I owned it more than a year.

            Q:

            Hi,

How many newtons are these PFD's and will the universal sizing equally fit a small 10 year old right up to a large adult?

I believe this PFD is rated at 21 pds. I am not much larger than a 10 year
              old and it fits well.

i dont know on the newtons but there is no jacket made that will equally fit a small 10 year old and an large adult.  A poor fitting jacket is a recipe for disaster.  Spend the money and get at least the basic groupings s/m, m/l, l/xl and see how that goes.  Losing a life is not worth $100

Beachy, if I'm doing the math right the Big Water V has ~ 113N buoyancy. The Universal Plus sizing is for chest circumferences 30"-58". For younger folks in this jacket you'll want the Youth version, Item # 2152Y. It fits those with chests 24"-29", weight 50-90 pounds. It has ~ 70N buoyancy.
