This was a great buy. I used it this March on a whitewater canoe trip, and it served well both when I was in my canoe and when I went "swimming." Comfortable, adjustable, good value at the sale price I paid. I also loved the handwarmer pockets and BONUS!--the 2 zipper pockets that enabled me to bring a few small contact-lens-related items along in case of a lens mishap in the water. The pockets were useful without making the vest bulky. This will get lots of use from me.

Using it for rec kayaking and it is comfortable allowing good freedom of movement. So far it has only been on inland waterways but it will be going out on the Oregon coast later this year. Pockets are well located as well.

                    Q:

I am 5/7, 170 lbs, chest 38. I have difficult with sea kayak reentry with my life vest now because it rides up high and the floatation gets in the way when I try to kick back on to the kayak. Would this style vest help with that issue, or is there a better choice?
                    thanks, John in Polson

These vests seem to stay put fairly well. If you use the adjustment straps on the sides to achieve a proper fit I think it will work well & not ride up. Good luck!

John, let's first look at the issue you have with your current jacket riding up high on you. Let's make sure you have it adjusted correctly. Loosen all the straps then cinch the waist adjustment snugly, down below the rib cage if possible. Move up the jacket, adjusting the shoulder straps last. Then have someone lift up on the shoulder straps to check for ride-up. The Session is a good jacket; just be aware that the back panel has foam all the way to the bottom, which can interfere with a high seat back. Give us a call, 800.635.5202, and we'll help you find the best jacket for your boat and the type of kayaking you're doing.

This is a fine PFD that will pass all river ranger requirements for whitewater sports. That said, I personally prefer to stay in my raft in class IV rapids! However, if you should find yourself suddenly in the water, this PFD will function as intended, provided you wear it properly (i.e., fully zipped and straps tightened for correct fit).
This PFD also has a good knife lash tab and very convenient pockets. I store my SPOT satellite transmitter (waterproof) in mine, so that in the event I become separated from my boat, and I'm injured, I can still call for rescue.....at least that's the plan :o)
Of course, there is not a PFD on the planet that will guarantee you "safe" swimming in a rapid. So you still must assume some amount of risk. STAY IN THE BOAT!!!

It looks like a good all around white water life jacket. If you are planning to swim a class 4 rapid, you would want the highest flotation available. The higher float jackets are usually not as comfortable for all day wear. This is good if you are doing rivers that have an occasional class 4 and you are with people who know what they are doing, if not, don't do class 4.
