- We do not recommend these Leg Straps for use in any other manner or application. Remember, leg straps are an extra safety measure and not a substitute for a poorly fitted life jacket.

- To install the straps, thread both of them through the webbing loop in the back of the jacket. Then thread one strap through the webbing loop at the bottom of the left front panel and the other one through the loop at the bottom of the right front panel.

The proper use of the leg straps depends upon the type and model of your daughter's PFD. Some have loops specifically intended for that purpose. If not, your options are to sew in loops or to use the waist belt and side adjustment straps as the anchor points. I recommend against the latter. The leg straps must attach to the front of the PFD and to the side rear of the PFD or they can become useless or even dangerous. If you use the waist belt strap to attach at the front, and that snap becomes undone, the leg straps will no longer function as intended.

These are designed for use with life jackets like the NRS Big Water Guide, Big Water V Adult and Youth and Rapid Rescuer. These jackets have three webbing loops sewn in the bottom of the jackets - one in the middle of the back panel and one at the bottom of each front panel. You thread each strap through the back loop and then one through each front loop. If the PFD has a loop sewn on to the bottom in the middle of the back, then
this would likely work: Buckle the leg straps into loops and then pull them
up on your legs. Then kinda bring them together/pinch them together near
your tailbone. That will show you the proper orientation for the straps to
be threaded through that loop. When not in use they pretty much hang there
uselessly and get in the way, so I recommend either using them or remove
them in the interim when they aren't needed. Just a note: if you are
wearing the PFD and someone else grabs the shoulders and lifts up hard it
shouldn't slip over your head! If you do it's too loose. Leg straps should
not be used as a remedy for this; the PFD should fit properly to begin with

What you do is see if you any straps on the main part of the PFD that the straps can be run over and then run the straps down and on the inside of the thigh to pull the PFD into position so it won't ride up ,don't do the strap up too tight or it will be uncomfortable .Hard to put into words but easy enough in practice .Hope this helps ,if you are ever in Mandurah ,Western Australia ,I'll show you ..Cheers Bob Bright.A:
A number of folks are responding to this question. NRS appreciates all who are using this feature and trying hard to help other boaters. I just want to reinforce my earlier post; these leg straps are designed to hook into loops specifically placed on a life jacket for this specific purpose, as we've done on the NRS jackets I listed. We can't recommend their use for attachment in any other way. Be aware that sewing loops on a jacket, which we also cannot recommend, qualifies as "modifying a PFD", which voids the Coast Guard certification. NRS strongly believes in and promotes boater safety; that's why we've added this feature to some of our life jackets. Remember, leg straps are an extra feature, they're not a substitute for a good fitting jacket.
