I was dismayed by the number of large, apparently permanent, creases and dents in my wetsuit jacket. These were inflicted somewhere during the manufacturing and shipping of the jacket. Unlike my Ultra John and Short John, they have not "recovered" after several usage/washing cycles and storing on a padded hanger. Too me this indicates a poor quality neoprene that is easily crushed, and will not be durable.

Comments about NRS Men's Wetsuit Jacket:

Best for kayaking and it kept me fairly warm in rainy paddling. Adding a paddling jacket kept the wind out and kept me much toastier.

Sizing is strange - I am 5'10" @ 180 lbs but only the XXL fit comfortably. I recommend going 2 sizes higher than NRS recommends.

Comments about NRS Men's Wetsuit Jacket:

I bought the top to be used over a farmer john wet suit for cold water kayaking. Used alone on non windy days it keeps you quite warm and often had to be zipped down to allow for cooling. On windy days after the suit was wet it can get a little chilly, and needs a wind breaker. The top does hinder full stroke motion a little but it may just be me not being used to it.
I think this does offer good hypothermia protection in non- severe applications that a dry suit would be required in.

      Service and delivery comments:

As expected, delivery was prompt and service from NRS is very good. I have never had any question or worry about service with this company.

Recommended by Aqua Therapist in Hawaii. Use it in the pool for therapy exercises and swimming. Contrary to popular opinion, Hawaii does have its cool water temperature and this wet suit keeps me warm and protected from the sun rays while exercising and swimming. I am in my late 60's and this is the best jacket I have used over the years. Thank you.

Turns a Farmer John into a Full Wetsuit

Comments about NRS Men's Wetsuit Jacket:

When I purchased this, I was considering buying a "full" wetsuit (i.e., with arms) to complement my drysuit and Farmer John websuit -- I needed something in the middle. This jacket fit my needs perfectly, essentially turning the Farmer John into a full wetsuit when needed. It can obviously also be worn alone, if the occasion called for it. Typical NRS high quality, reasonable value. With respect to fit, while I indicated "true to size" in my ratings, I've learned that it's best to go a size larger than I'd usually wear in any kind of immersion clothing. For example, I'm 5'9" and slender, but the extra large fits me perfectly. In sum, I am delighted with this product -- it really adds a lot of flexibility to the immersion wardrobe.

                  Q:

I use an NRS 3mm farmer john for paddling in SF Bay. I would like to couple the farmer john with this jacket for abalone trips in 52-55 degree water. Would this keep me warm? I could add a hydroskin if needed.

                    A:

I use this jacket with the same 3mm farmer john bottoms.  I have been submerged in 45 degree water, but only for a few minutes.  I honestly don't know how much maximum time this suit would buy you in 55 degree water, but I would personally be comfortable using it for kayaking knowing I would not be spending extended time (excess of 20 minutes)submerged.  It is very difficult to come up with definitive answers on how long various insulators will keep your core temps in a safe range due to the many variables of body type and physiology.
You probably already know to go up at least one size if not two.  I typically wear a large in any other clothing type.  I wear an XXL in this particular wetsuit.  6'3" 215lbs.

I hope this helps.  Wish I could be more specific.

This combo will put 5-mm of neoprene over your core area, which will give you a good bit of insulation. Not sure what "abalone trips" involves. These wetsuit pieces are designed for surface immersion and not for diving, which compresses neoprene at depth.

Hi, I would like to purchase a wet suit jacket ,however after reading some of the comments I am not sure about the size I need.I am 6'1,215 lbs,44 chest and 36-37 waist.I would not want to buy something that is going to be to tight and at the same time not too large. What size would you recommend?

You're on the cusp between XL and XXL. My guess is you'd like the XXL best. Or order both sizes and send back the one you like least, return shipping is free.

Good Luck-- you might try a retail store that carries the product. My
recollection is that the hydroskin runs very small, so a XXL may work
there. The hydroskin jacket is extremely snug for me.
The regular type of wetsuits I wear an XXL, and I am a 47 Chest and
38-39 waist, and it is snug but okay. .

                    Mark,
I purchased a large and it is a little tight on me. I am 5'9" and ~160
lbs. 38 chest, 31 waist, i would suggest xxl or xl. Hope the info
helps. I really like the jacket. The arm zippers come in really handy for
rolling up the sleeves when you get warm.

My husband and I both have the NRS 2mm wetsuit jacket. I'm 5'7", 125 lbs,
and wear a size small, which is a little roomy around the shoulders and
chest for me. My husband is 6'0" and around 190lbs and the large fits him
well, so at 215lbs and a 44 chest, I would think an extra-large would
probably fit comfortably snug. Hope that helps!
