NRS Women's Ultra Jane Wetsuit - Closeout Q: What is the thickness of this wetsuit? Appropriate for spring paddling in the Northeast? Also, Does NRS offer non-profit or educational organization discounts? Thanks, Ken Cline Asked on 2/16/2013 by KC from Bar Harbor ME Know the answer? Answer this question 6 answers A: This is a good weight for Northeast spring paddling. It is my standard when coupled with a dry top (and appropriate thin or thick insulation...over the wetsuit and under the dry top) and sealed with a sprayskirt in whitewater. It is about a 1/8" thickness which I use all the time. This wetsuit/drytop combination with thin or thick insulation underneath serves well for all conditions, except swimming (in the event of upset). If there is a high liklihood of swimming, would strongly recommend wearing a dry suit which can be layered underneath according to conditions. NE River spring conditions have icy water. I use a women's Kokatat goretex front-zip drysuit (when I used to, or now, even consider venturing out in freezing conditions). These days there are many proprietary less expensive fabrics will suit that purpose. Whitewater Paddler for over 25 years Answered on 2/16/2013 by Anonymous A: Ken - The wetsuit is 3mm thick. I used it for a late fall paddle week in Lake Superior and it was perfect! I didn't spend anytime in the water though other than to wade in. We had mostly sunny days and only needed a light shirt over our wetsuits. Add a paddle jacket and you would be warm in colder conditions. My guess is that you would want a thicker wetsuit if you were on a river, getting wet more often. Sue Answered on 2/17/2013 by Anonymous A: Ken, I have purchased this wetsuit for a close female friend and for my wife. It is the heaviest traditional wetsuit that NRS offers, I think it is 3.5mil but please research that yourself. Here in Central WI, where it was below zero deg Fahrenheit when we woke this morning, my friend will start wearing it once the ice clears the local lakes and rivers but she will be very cold once she gets wet. My wife requires it to be a little warmer yet, water temps need to get in the 50's. For cold water your female paddling partner will need fleece and a good quality paddling pants/top to wear over the fleece & wetsuit. Your question regarding how appropriate it may be is honestly too vague to answer. Maine, on the Atlantic, in April? No way..... you must have a good drysuit. Warmer inland water in the DC area in April? Quite possibly so. This is the sort of thing that you could wear in WA year-round. Water temps in the 'Sound and in the straights stay in the 50's all year. On cooler days you would want a paddling top & maybe some fleece. On a warm day you could wear the wetsuit by itself. Rental outfits provide wetsuits of this weight to their customers. Serious paddlers however, opt for drysuits. If you are practicing rescues, working on rolls, or doing anything else that directly exposes you to the water for an extended period of time, being wet (instead of dry) will limit how much you can really participate. As for your discount questions, these should be addressed directly to NRS, not on a Q&A forum about individual products. I hope this helped, Bill -Ernest Hemingway Answered on 2/17/2013 by Anonymous A: I know that it is what I wear.and the only thing I wear.when Oklahoma has a blizzard and I outside all day. Temperatures may have a chill factor of 0 degrees F. And I am comfy. Answered on 2/18/2013 by Anonymous A: It'd three millimeter neoprene that same thickness as the wetsuit I use for rafting Colorado rivers during spring snow melt. I pair my suit with neoprene booties, an NRS hydroskin shirt and splash jacket and I am generally quite comfy. Some may add long underwear as a base layer, but I do not. NRS Women's Ultra Jane Wetsuit - Closeout Q: Hi, do you have this in size XS and S? When will it be in stock? Asked on 12/27/2012 by Linda from New Zealand Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Linda, this is a closeout model, so just those larger sizes are still available. We've improved the Ultra Jane, Item #22211, by adding our fleecy VaporLoft lining, and it has those smaller sizes. Alas, it's just not on sale. Answered on 12/27/2012 by Clyde from NRS
NRS Women's Ultra Jane Wetsuit - Closeout Q: I am going rafting down the Colarado River at the end of April. I am 5' 5" and. Weigh 200 lbs. I am concerned that the Xl length would be too long? Should I buy the shorter version? Asked on 12/17/2012 by Bonnie the Elder from Stn Mtn , ga Know the answer? Answer this question 4 answers A: Smart move buying the wet suit with relief zipper. I think you will be fine with the xl as you likely will be kneeling a lot. Answered on 12/18/2012 by Anonymous A: Sorry, I can't answer the question about fit. I like my Ultra Jane Wetsuit, but I'm not sure a 3 mil farmer jane is enough for the Colorado River in April. I'm not a boater, but I would like a 5-7 mil full wetsuit or farmer jane with jacket would be necessary to keep warm. Answered on 12/18/2012 by Anonymous A: Bonnie, we're thinking the XL is too long for you, that it'll bunch and be baggy. You want a wetsuit to fit skintight to minimize water entry and exchange. However, you've got plenty of time before April, so if you want to try it on you can exchange it if needs be. While it doesn't have the relief zipper, the Women's Venus Wetsuit, Item # 2610, is the most comfortable wetsuit going. Answered on 12/18/2012 by Clyde from NRS A: HI - I don't know if this would be too long since I assume, at 200 lbs, a large size would be needed. I am 5'6'' (112 lbs) and the women's small is not too long. It could even be another ~ 2 inches longer and still not be too long......for my purposes it is 'just right'. Would suggest asking NRS about the inseam measurement to make a determination. For me, I wear a 30 to 30 1/2 " inseam for trousers. The suit itself is great....I use it all the time for kayaking. The zippers make an easy on/off and the 'comfort' zipper in the Ultra is great for those quick trips to the bushes. Answered on 12/18/2012 by Anonymous
NRS Women's Ultra Jane Wetsuit - Closeout Q: I just received my order of the NRS Little Jane Suit (M) which fits me great and was a great deal at $49.95. I saw that the NRS Women's Ultra Jane Suit is a closeout steal at $79.95 but they don't have a M, only L and above. I am 130 lbs, 5'4". Would the L be too big for me? I am short waist-ed and of average build. Asked on 10/24/2012 by greatvalleygal from New Milford, CT Know the answer? Answer this question 8 answers A: Yes it would. Kellie A. Holmstrom DVM Animal Medical Center of Marquette Answered on 10/25/2012 by Anonymous A: i am bigger and taller and i can wear the XL. I cant say for sure but i suspect the L would be too big for a smaller person. The XL fits me but there is a little room in the behind because i'm flat in the back, but i got a stomach in the front. the legs are long enough for me but the Large would be too short for me even if i could get in it. also, i once tried on the XXL and the legs were way tooo big around for me, like balloons in the knees, cuz my body has big torso but smaller legs. Answered on 10/24/2012 by Anonymous A: The large is going to be too big, especially if you are short-waisted. Sorry. Answered on 10/24/2012 by Anonymous A: I don't think so. I'm 5' 8.5" and 135 lbs and short waisted (and long legged). I ordered a large and it was too big through the top. Sold to someone else and ordered the medium. A much better fit. Answered on 10/24/2012 by Anonymous A: The medium fits me fine and I am 5' 7" and 150lbs. I think the L would be way too big. Answered on 10/25/2012 by River Bill from Hopewell, Missouri A: I am 6 foot tall, and it fits me well. So that is an 8 inch difference. I guess it would be too loose on you. It is hard to tell since it fits so snug. I am not sure where the 'bagginess' would be if I didn't fill it out so well. Sorry to not be a whole lot of help. That is a good price. Answered on 10/25/2012 by Anonymous A: Based on my own experiences, I consider NRS sizes to run a bit on the small side. My wife is 5' 3", more than a bit heavier than you, and has either the L or the XL. When looking at the sizing chart, I would take hip & bust size into consideration more than the listed heights. BTW- I am a guy. While I am familiar with the heavier-weight Ultra-Jane since I bought this as a gift, I do not know the "little Jane"......... My only advice there would be that if the "Little" is a lighter-weight neoprene, keep in mind you will not have as much stretch with the "Ultra". If the "Little" is the same fabric weight as the "Ultra", just with shorter legs, then I would expect the fit between the two would be about the same. Sorry I am not much help. I am one of those guys with big legs, a normal waist, and then much larger again through the chest/shoulders. I find if I buy my "normal" sizes, the NRS clothes are too tight (especially in the aforementioned areas) but if I go up a size I am usually OK (sometimes "extra" in the waist or sleeve/leg length but not so much as to cause a problem). Hope it helps, Bill -Albert Einstein Answered on 10/25/2012 by Anonymous A: Yes, Large would be to big for 5'4" 130 lbs! I am a little taller and little lighter and S Ultra Jane fits perfect. NRS Women's Ultra Jane Wetsuit - Closeout Q: I'm 195 and almost 5'7, if I get the xxl will my weight make up for the long length or should I be getting a mans? Asked on 10/2/2012 by lu from oregon Know the answer? Answer this question 6 answers A: p.s. - you might find that you prefer the XL UltraJane though. Answered on 10/2/2012 by Anonymous A: I think that would work - I dont think the XXL is that much longer -- doesn't present a problem anyway @ 67 ". You don't state your bust measurement -- unless you want to tuck big ones under your arm pits, stick with the UltraJane XXL. Answered on 10/2/2012 by Anonymous A: I think yes. I am 5'11" and 165 and mine is a bit short. I could probably stuff more me into it if I got bigger so 195 is worth trying. You do want them reasonably tight. My 2 cents. Answered on 10/2/2012 by Anonymous A: I know that I am comfortable in this being 6 foot, and about 175. I would say I could be bigger everywhere in it, and still be comfortable. I did not try a man's on, so I cannot compare. I usually do need men's sizes in things, but this one fit me well. Answered on 10/2/2012 by Anonymous A: Lu, You know better than I how clothes fit you in the mens vs. womens comparison. I can offer this, my wife is only 5'3". When she bought her XL she weighed (probably) 20lbs less than you. As expected, the legs were a bit long, but she was pretty snug everywhere else. Now is likely just a bit over your weight and cannot fit in her wetsuit. In my opinion, clothing sizes with NRS, should be guaged more by your waist, chest/bust, and hips than by your weight. We all carry weight differently. You could be very thin-waisted with a very muscular build, and the XXL would be way too big. On the other hand, if you are a bit more broad at the hips, fuller in the bust, and narrow at the shoulders, then this could be exactly the size you need. For what it is worth, other than a difference in length from brand-to-brand, my wife wears similar sizes in both mens' & womens' wetsuits. Hope it helps, Bill -Oscar Wilde Answered on 10/3/2012 by Anonymous A: I think the womens would be too long, I have them as i am 6" tall with most of my height being my legs and they are a nice length on me so probably too long for you.
