Liquid G/flex® Epoxy Adhesive in kit form. Two 4 oz. bottles of resin and hardener, complete instructions and application supplies. Waterproof, flexible repairs on plastics, fiberglass, wood, etc.
  • Note: The packaging now refers to this product as Aluminum Boat Repair Kit. Please be aware that this is still the same great adhesive that works on a wide range of materials.

  • The 650-K kit contains 4 oz. each of viscous liquid G/flex 650 resin and hardener. Mixing ratio is 1:1. It also includes two reusable mixing sticks/applicators, two 12-cc syringes, four grams adhesive filler (colloidal silica), four mixing cups, one pair disposable gloves, four alcohol cleaning pads and complete handling and repair instructions.

  • Mixed G/flex 650 is of a heavy "syrup" consistency. It will run off a vertical surface. The adhesive filler that comes with the kit can be used to thicken it to your desired consistency. Complete mixing instructions are included.

  • G/flex is a product of West System, a division of Gougeon Brother's, Inc. The Gougeon brothers have been using epoxy resins in boat building and repair for some 50 years.

  • It makes structural bonds that can absorb the stresses of expansion, contraction, shock and vibration.

  • G/flex works very well to bond hypalon to hypalon or wood.

  • In addition to its superior bonding to many different materials and its ability to bond dissimilar materials, G/flex is much more flexible than other epoxies. This is an excellent property for boat building and repair.

  • Polyethylene (HDPE) is a common kayak and canoe material. Its molecular structure resists gluing by most adhesives. G/flex solves the problem; it bonds well to polyethylene and ABS plastics.

  • Many boats are made from aluminum, G/flex works well for repair seams on aluminum boats and for adhering patches.

  • At 72 degrees F pot life is 45 minutes. Working time is 75 minutes. It cures to a solid in three hours and cures to its full strength in one to two days. It cures faster in warmer temperatures and slower in colder ones.

  • Clean up is simple. Wipe up spills with absorbent materials. Clean residue before it cures, with alcohol or acetone.

  • G/flex adheres tenaciously to difficult-to-glue hardwoods, both tropical and domestic varieties.

  • It has the ability to glue damp woods. It can be used on wet surfaces, even underwater when applied with specific techniques.

  • G/flex does indeed belong in every boater's repair kit. The more you use it, the more uses you'll find for it - with your boating gear and other sporting and household items. It's easy to mix and use. The instructions that come with the kit are top notch.

Used to re-seal foam bulkhead to plastic kayak hull. Also used to join wood to wood for a small gate - great adhesion for both projects. Kit had everything necessary for application

Bought this product to repair my aluminum boat leaks, but in the meantime my daughter's bathtub got a six inch crack in it that every time she got in the tub the crack would open to about a 1/4 inch. Decided to try G/flex on the tub and it worked like a charm. No more leaks and I don't have to worry about buying a new bath tub!!!!!

I used the G/flex Epoxy repair kit to repair holes in my kayak. It was easy to use, but most importantly, it worked perfectly the first time. I have plenty left over if I have any future needs. Highly recommended.

                  Q:

My royalex canoe has some pretty good dings and scratches that I would like to at least fill in and smooth out. Color isn't important.

Would this product work for that or do you have a different recommendation?

                    Hello Frieds,
I used this product but for a plastic kayak restoration, not aluminum. I
tried two other epoxy options before but this is the one. I have used my
kayak many times after the repair and the restored zone is in pretty
condition; this epoxy is very resistent. I do recommend it for you.
                    regards

I've used G/Flex 650 to repair several fairly long (8-10 inch) cracks
completely through the hull of a royalex canoe, and subsequently run class
3+ rivers a number of times. The G/Flex repairs held up perfectly. I see
no reason you couldn't use it to repair dings, dents and scratches also.

This repair kit will do the trick. I used it to repair some dings that and punctures that didn't go all the way through the hull. The repairs seems very strong and durable.

You have the right product! I've used this on my Mad River royalex (I have
to go back and see if I can find the rocks I missed) and have proven to
myself that I can now glue anything to anything.
                    Hope this helps, Roy

I have talked with the folks at west systems. The do say and have
web article evidence that this product will stick to ABS royalex.
The method though would be to mix the epoxy and fill the cuts and
dings but then put packing tape over the epoxy while it cures. This
will help keep the epoxy flat and smooth. West Systems does
recommend flamming the Royalex still to oxidize the plastic for a
                    better hold.

I use this product on my Current Designs Kevlar / Gel Coat kayak and it
works great. I've patch road rock gouges, cracks, and dings. Got Gel Coat
colors online to mix in. Patch / fill with a Popsicle stick , smooth out
with saran wrapped finger (dipped in water), buff with high grain sand
paper & steel wool, and wax!!!

Yes, this will work for your canoe. Take a look at this article on our website - http://www.nrsweb.com/tech_talk/GflexEpoxy.asp - there's a link in it to an article on the repair of a Royalex canoe.
