I mostly use the shoes for whitewater canoeing, rafting and light hiking/portaging.
I've replaced the insoles with green Superfeet and the support is good, comfort is great, they are lightweight and I especially like shoes that fit snug around the ankle to stop sand and other debris from getting inside the shoe.
One minor issue is one of the buckles is slightly defective causing difficulty when trying to unbuckle that shoe.
The front grab loop is too small to slip a finger in, but just grabbing the loop is adequate for removing the shoe.

I am a class II/III kayaker who is generally very easy on gear (most lasting many years.) I was very surpprised when mt NRS Attack shoes began to come apart (sole coming off) after just four or five kayaking trips in less than eight months. Apparently I must have gotten a defective pair, and I'm sure NRS will rectify the problem. Had they not fallen apart, these shoes would fill the bill nicely for the knarly portages through brambles and up steep embankments.

Im a class 4 kayaker. I love these shoes for everything, but they are too slick on wet rocks. The sole traction makes them great for the hike in/out and portaging on land, but that same sole doesnt offer enough grippy surface area on wet rocks to the point of almost being useless.
Other than that, they fit great and have worn well so far after 6mo of minimal use.

Brilliant shoes. Comfortable and cosy on feet.
I am now on my second pair, having killed a pair a little too quickly.
Great for work as an instructor / coach as I can LIVE in them all day and keep my poor abused feet happy.

I love these shoes. In addition to canoeing/kayaking, I'm often in creeks, rivers and extremely marshy terrain. The tread on these shoes has saved my butt more times than I can count when I navigate slippery and sharp rocks, clay-soaked banks, and muck up to my thighs. They stay firmly on on feet in the deepest mire and keep my feet warm in cool water (70 F), yet they are lightweight (yay!) and comfortable enough to walk around in the woods and streams. Ok, they take a while to dry but that's to be expected. I gave them a 5 star rating even though, after a year of heavy use, the buckle on one shoe jammed. But I contacted NRS, my favorite outdoor company, and they replaced them asap. Know this about sizing: I was concerned when I first put them on that they were too long and too wide in places, but it turns out they fit perfectly in the water.

I'm a class III/IV boater but I'm good to my gear. Always rinsed and dried and don't run around in my paddling shoes. Nonetheless, these did not hold up well. The soles started to come off (I glued them back on), but then they just came apart at the seams. Literally.

I normally wear size 8 womens, but being you don't wear socks in these, I ended up finally feeling I had a good and happy fit with size 6. These shoes run one size too big. But NRS already includes a post paid shipping label so you can return it. These shoes were a replacement from NRS because my previous pair became all unglued after just one wearing, after 4 years. I will buy NRS again because they stand behind their product, even tho I just got one time wear out of my shoes (I live where it is 110 degrees in the summer, so that is hard on rubber and glue).

I wear a variety of socks with my Attack Shoe. Cold water, light hiking, and portaging are reasons why I'll wear a sock up to 5mm thick.
As far as sizing with socks goes... the Attack Shoe is no different than any other type of shoe. It all depends on the exact size of your foot.
I'd also highly recommend replacing the insole with green Superfeet insoles. Superfeet provide a much better footbed for improved support and protection.VERIFIED BUYER

I usually wear Hydroskin wetsocks with this shoe. Actually even in the summer, since I find the socks help keep the boots from getting too smelly. I've worn the shoes without the socks though, and don't notice a difference in the fit of the shoe with or without sock. I can even fit the shoe over the latex booties on my drysuit. I had a pair of attack shoes and wore medium weight wool socks. I'm a size 10.5 usually and my wet shoe was an 11.They worked well. I don't know if you should go up a size with the hydro-sock. Good luck.

I owned a pair of NRS felt sole boots but got rid of them once it was pointed out to me that they are a prime carrier of invasive species. In their place, I tried several other models and settled on the NRS Attack Shoes, not because of the name, certainly, but because they offer a nice combination of grip on slippery rocks both in and out of the water, soles that give enough protection for walking on rocky beaches, and boots that go on and off with relative ease. W ith arch and heel straps, they are pretty secure - that is, they won't come off easily if you get caught in the mud . The traction and sole protection are not as good as the felt soles were, and the boots are a bit lighter, which could be eit her good or bad, depending on your needs. However, i n my opinion, no one should be using felt soles at all any more; these boots are the best alternative I could find .

Traction is similar to the felt sole but not identical. Felt sole will give good traction in all conditions. The rubber sole will provide better in dryer more abrasive conditions and less traction on slicker and slimier surfaces.

I bought a pair of Attack shoes this year and overall I'm pretty happy with them. I used them in a Snake river raft trip last month. The water was not really "cold" with the temps being in the 60s. If I were to use them in cold water I would wear some sort of wet-sock with them. So you may want to size accordingly. I've never owned a felt sole shoe so I can't draw a comparison. The things that I like most about the Attack Shoe is the high top. There is never any debris, sand, or grit that get inside. They also make great light hikers. I put a pair of Superfeet insoles in them and they are great for short hikes and portages.
However, my shoes, while still almost new, are showing signs of the sole delaminating on the left-outside shoe where the sole meets the upper. I suppose I should contact NRS about that. The buckles are a bit stubborn to unclip also. When they are cinched on my feet they are almost impossible to undo. I loosen them from the tag-end of the strap and they slip off my foot. I really don't worry about the buckle being fickle.VERIFIED BUYER

I have been satisfied with the traction of the Attack boot. I don't
use them for fishing and can't recall specifically how it has
performed on slippery, green algae covered rocks, but overall, in all
other river conditions I have been satisfied. The boot has thicker
sole than typical water shoes, helping smooth out river bed
roughness. The boot has performed well for me, the last pair lasting
3-1/2 years of hard use river clean-up and canoeing. For warmth in
