      Comments about NRS Desperado Wetshoe:

Just off the river through Grand Canyon. These were great with Seal Skinz socks to keep feet forever warm, though not dry as Skinz just can't keep that water out. I had the most comfortable feet on the boat. Kept them on for short hikes and they did fine. Very durable. Not a scratch on them. Grippiness is intermediate. Bettter than Tevas, not as good as 5-10 rubber, but what is? Good skin protection. Performed fine on sandstone, not as well on polished rock. No arch support, so not suitable for long hikes or carrying a pack. One size bigger to use with Skinz was just right. Can't wait to try them in the kayak

        Comments about NRS Desperado Wetshoe:

It's hard for me to find comfortable shoes for size 13's that still fits inside my kayak but these still feel good after hours on the water.

        Service and delivery comments:

Had to send the first pair back because the pull tab came off. Talked to customer service and they were very helpful and polite. I will go to NRS for my supplies in the future.

          Comments about NRS Desperado Wetshoe:

Needed a shoe to replace the NRS Sasquatch (loved the shoe but it did not hold up AT ALL). It's too early to say how this one will do, though I'm encouraged by the sturdier sole on this one. I haven't had to trek down any steep hills or scramble over major rocks just yet so it's hard to comment on traction and foot support in those environments. Fits in my play boat ok. I ordered 2 sizes up from my shoe size to accommodate my drysuit and layering sock. Relatively easy to pull on with the fuzzy inside.

          • NRS Desperado Wetshoe

            Q:

I'm involved in downriver racing with an open canoe. Some of the races include portages over moderate terrain (e.g., up slippery hills, across granite outcroppings) where you are trying to move at speed carrying the boat. Do I need something with a tougher sole, or will this shoe have the traction and durability to handle that kind of usage?

              A:

Eric, the Desperado has a tough sole with good traction. However, for the use you describe I would want a shoe with either laces (like the Workboot) or an instep strap (like the Cross-4 or ATB), to hold my foot firmly and give more lateral stability.

Is the sole on this wetshoe thicker than the sole on the 'closeout' model?
Is this a better shoe than the 'closeout' model?

              A:

The new model and closeout model have the same sole thickness. I think you'll really like the improvements we've made to the Desperado - our VaporLoft lining that doesn't absorb water and dries quickly, the HydroCuff top that helps seal out debris and seal in warmth, and the rubber stabilizing bands that provide side-to-side stability.

What would be the appropriate size for a woman who wears an 8-8 1/2 regular shoe?

              A:

Most of our shoes are in men's sizing. Women will want to order one size smaller. A woman wearing a size 8 women's shoe will more than likely fit in a size 7. If she'll be wearing wetsocks or using the shoe with drysuit sock, she should go up a size. A couple of our shoes run small, we've made note of that in the Product Info section on the online product page.

I want a wetshoe to have traction and to protect the foot area of my Kokatat SuperNova Tropos drysuit. Can't have any holes there! My foot size is 11. Should I buy a size 12 to accomodate warm woolen socks and the drysuit thickness?

Yes, please go up a size to make room for the extra padding.
