The first pair purchased at a canoe/kayak demo. event last summer leaked in the heel area, in one boot. After a conversation with NRS customer service they made the situation right, right away. While I haven't worn the new (replacement) boots yet as the weather calls for a drysuit now. I have no doubt that if a problem occurs, which I don't expect it to, NRS will take care of it.

    Comments about NRS Boundary Shoe:

I'm a big dude (5'10", ~250lb), with big calves and I was skeptical that these would fit right. Got em anyway and wasn't disappointed; they fit fine. I use them to launch my Hobie Outback and they keep me warm and dry. I wear wool socks underneath to help keep internal moisture at bay; works great. If its warm out, I'll wear shorts and wear these with half folded down over itself after launching.

      Comments about NRS Boundary Shoe:

I am a novice kayaker and needed the boots for an early spring kayaking trip with friends. I have large feet, bunions, and big calves and was afraid of ordering these on-line because I am difficult to fit. However, the boots fit well, were comfortable, and kept me warm and dry - even at the end of the trip when I got out of the kayak in water a little deeper than expected. These were recommended to me by a friend and I noticed that most of the 13 women on the trip wore the same boots.

                Comments about NRS Boundary Shoe:

I've been sea kayaking for 30 years, and use (and like) NRS products. I purchased the NRS boundary shoe to replace a pair of Chota Mukluk light boots that wore out after many years. Size 10 Chota's fit my feet, even wearing a dry-suit with built-in Gortex socks. A size 10 NRS Boundary shoe was too small to get my foot in. I ordered a sized 11, and it was too small as well, even without putting a dry suit on. It seems to be narrow as well. I didn't try a size 12 because it would be too long to fit in my kayak. The free return shipping NRS offers is a nice feature. I'll continue to order other NRS water shoes that I know fit me. It's a puzzle to me why the sizing seems so different on the boundary boots.

Jon, that's some extra padding opposite the ankle bone protrusion. It works to protect that part of our foot against contact with the walls of a kayak.

It is apparently to provide more cushion for the outside of the foot and ankle joint which some kayakers find bothered when paddling in their boats for long periods. We use the Boundary boots for open canoeing and rafting and don't find this to be a problem for us. HTH

Depends a bit on what you'll be wearing inside them. Bare feet or thin sock, a 9 should work. Drysuit socks or thick socks in general, I'd go with a 10.

Doesn't really matter if you wear the pant over or tucked into the boot.
The key is to not allow water to get in over the top of the boot at your
calf. If the water remains below the top of the boot, your foot will stay
dry. Water does not intrude into this boot, it is completely waterproof.
Only will get wet if the water comes in over the top at your calf.

I keep the pants/wetsuit inside the boots. It is helpful to be able to see how the water depth and the top of the boots line up when entering the water. I usually wear waterproof socks in case I go in or step in water that is over the boots.

Been getting in some confused answers for this question. NRS dry pants have latex ankle gaskets. The latex gasket will not stretch enough to go over the Boundary Shoe, so the pant will have to be inside the shoe. If instead, splash pants were being worn, they might be able to be worn over the shoe.

I wear a size 10 boot. I got a NRS boot size 10. My foot feels tight in it. My big toe is at the end of the boot. I would like a little more room. Will it loosen up or should I exchange it for an 11?

I would verify that the sizing is correct if it is especially tight. You want the boot to fit somewhat tight so it won't come off easily in water, but it should not be uncomfortably tight. I am a size 11 boot and my boundary boots are true to size.

The footbed and sole are some kind of molded rubber.  They aren't  going to loosen up.  Exchange them for 11's.  You'll be comfortable in a l arger size , you'll have room to wear heavy socks if you want, your feet wi ll stay warmer, and you won't dread wearing them all day.  The velcro instep straps will help you feel confident that they won't pull off if you don't want them to.

In my experience, the boot will not "pack out" or expand noticeably by further use. I ordered one size larger than my shoe size and all is good with the fit and comfort levels. Hope that helps.

I wear a size 10 and my boot fits well. It is snug with thick socks. If you do winter boating, you will want to be able to put wool socks under them. I've only worn them 4-5 times in 2 years but they have not stretched.

Relatively flat. They're great in the kayak and landing the boat in cold water. But good grief, I do get a heck of an ache in my feet if I have to walk any distance in these boots - which is something I never deal with in any other footwear. -JBJ

The sole is flat. It just looks like it's elevated in the picture but it's
not, the rubber wraps up and around but the foot bed is flat. Gives your
heels more protection from the hull of your boat, especially a kayak which
is what I use them for. Hope this helps.

The sole is flat - the heel is not raised, even though, in the photo, the protective material arould the heel suggests it might be.  The sole is quite firm, with a pretty good grip,  suitable for walking on sharp rocks, and the neoprene upper is dry, warm, an d flexible.  T hey are not meant for uses that would be normal for rubber boots with non-slip soles, like for sailing.  Also like rubber boots, they will not keep you dry if you step into water that is over the top o f the boot.

I would get a boot size that is at least what you normally would get as the boot is tough to get on and off when your foot is a little wet.
                    Otherwise the boots work well.
