I used these gloves for winter whitewater kayaking, instead of pogies/mambas. They are super nice and dry until they get a hole, which happened quite quickly for me. I was paddling some pushy class IV and a chunk of material between thumb and fore-finger ripped out, I guess I was gripping my paddle too hard?

I would recommend these gloves if you're doing largely flat water paddling, or easy stuff, but if you're bouncing off rocks or doing lots of scouting/scrambling during your trips, you'll eat these up in a minute.

I'd also consider trying their Rogue gloves, since the different outer layer material may be less prone to ripping from friction.

Great product. Works extremely well in keeping your hands dry when paddling through the surf and keeping the wind chill off you as well. Their so comfortable they almost feel like your not wearing them at all. "Another great product from NRS", what more is there to say.

Comments about NRS Maverick Gloves with HydroCuff:

I purchased these gloves for a kayaking trip I have planned to Glacier Bay Alaska later this summer. I have only used them once thus far but found them to be comfortable, warm, and they gripped the paddle well. I suspect when my hands are a bit cold, they may be difficult to get on or off (the cuffs are intentionally tight to minimize water from getting in), but on my day trip last week (the water was cold, but the air temp was warm), I did not have any problems.

I like the gloves and would recommend them.

Comments about NRS Maverick Gloves with HydroCuff:

I bought these after going through several other pairs of NRS gloves that I didn't find either waterproof or warm, or that had grip issues that led me to reject them. I wanted something fully waterproof, meaning that water would not get into the glove if I inadvertently dipped my hands in the water, which happens a lot. This glove is "waterproof." Some of NRSs other gloves are made of neoprine, and although water gets in, as it does in a wetsuit, nonetheless the water inside the gloves eventually heats up and the thickness of the neoprine keeps your hands insulated from the cold. This glove (Maverick) is not insulated, so your hands stay dry, but without an insulating glove liner in cold weather, you'd find the Maverick is not too warm. If you buy an adequate size glove, there is room inside for an insulated glove liner, which can make the gloves warm, like dry socks inside the booties on a drysuit. The Maverick has an excellent grip, and an excellent feel on the paddle because the glove is made of soft patterned rubber. The soft rubber is succeptible to damage however, from being snagged on sharp things, as I found out during my first few wears, however damage is easily repairable with Aquaseal. In cold weather, I use Mavericks in conjunction with a set of NRS Mamba pogies, which are far warmer in really cold weather. I use the Mavericks for launching and landing, and at times when I need manual dexterity while my hands need to remain covered. I use the pogies for long distance paddling when it's very cold, and when I want to quickly withdraw my bare hands for photography, binoculars, GPS, etc. The pogies go on and off easily. It's harder to get the Maverick gloves on and off because of the waterproof cuffs, and when the gloves get wet inside. However, by rolling the waterproof cuffs down (turning them inside out) the glove is shortened and getting them on and off is easier. It's just a trick you need to learn to deal with this glove. On the whole, I like the Mavericks. They would probably be too warm in summer, however mine have not seen a summer yet . . .

Aquaseal would work great. It's an all around watersports adhesive that all boaters should have in the repair quiver.

I have never tried the Mambas but the NRS Maverick's have been very warm for
me. They are a good glove even though they're not as thick as the Mambas
and they're "still warm" when you don't have a hold of the paddle J. I'd
say go with personal preference - if you like your hand to directly hold the
paddle, go Mambas. Otherwise run with the Maverick.

I have not used the Rouge. I have found the Maverick gloves to be amazing
and great. They have kept my hands warm every time I have used them. I
have to take them off to realize how cold the water is. I hate having cold
hands and these work for me. I have used them in water temps in the 40's,
              but no colder.

I've never tried the Rogue glove but I am on my 3rd pair of Mavericks. They are both 2mm with taped seams so the warmth will be the same. Where the Maverick wins is in windy conditions. The material of the Maverick blocks wind. The Maverick is super grippy and has great paddle feel, but the material wears relatively quickly. I get really cold hands and I wear this in temps down to the high 30's. colder than that and I am in Toaster Mitts.

I think it depends on the temperature for these. These gloves are good at keeping the water out, but they don't have a lot of insulation. I have hands that get cold easily, and I find that if the temps are below freezing, I need more insulation than these offer. But they're really good for borderline days that aren't quite that cold. Not sure I can compare to the Rogue; I don't know the model of
the other NRS gloves I have, but they have the red fingers and are
thicker, and those are the ones I use when it is colder. Hope this helps some.

Both the Maverick and Rogue gloves have 2-mm thick neoprene. Where the Mavericks have an edge is their raw neoprene outer sheds water better, so eliminates or greatly reduces, evaporative cooling.

I routinely use these gloves while paddling down to single digits
(Fahrenheit) and do not feel any bite from the cold. I can't imagine
a warmer glove, so unless the rouge can keep water outas well as these
can, I doubt that they would be as warm.
