They are super nice and dry until they get a hole, which happened quite quickly for me. I was paddling some pushy class IV and a chunk of material between thumb and fore-finger ripped out, I guess I was gripping my paddle too hard? Comments about NRS Maverick Gloves with HydroCuff: Great product. Works extremely well in keeping your hands dry when paddling through the surf and keeping the wind chill off you as well. Their so comfortable they almost feel like your not wearing them at all. "Another great product from NRS", what more is there to say.

Comments about NRS Maverick Gloves with HydroCuff: I purchased these gloves for a kayaking trip I have planned to Glacier Bay Alaska later this summer. I have only used them once thus far but found them to be comfortable, warm, and they gripped the paddle well. I suspect when my hands are a bit cold, they may be difficult to get on or off (the cuffs are intentionally tight to minimize water from getting in), but on my day trip last week (the water was cold, but the air temp was warm), I did not have any problems.

Comments about NRS Maverick Gloves with HydroCuff: I bought these after going through several other pairs of NRS gloves that I didn't find either waterproof or warm, or that had grip issues that led me to reject them. I wanted something fully waterproof, meaning that water would not get into the glove if I inadvertently dipped my hands in the water, which happens a lot. This glove is "waterproof." Some of NRSs other gloves are made of neoprine, and although water gets in, as it does in a wetsuit, nonetheless the water inside the gloves eventually heats up and the thickness of the neoprine keeps your hands insulated from the cold. This glove (Maverick) is not insulated, so your hands stay dry, but without an insulating glove liner in cold weather, you'd find the Maverick is not too warm. If you buy an adequate size glove, there is room inside for an insulated glove liner, which can make the gloves warm, like dry socks inside the booties on a drysuit. The Maverick has an excellent grip, and an excellent feel on the paddle because the glove is made of soft patterned rubber. The soft rubber is succeptible to damage however, from being snagged on sharp things, as I found out during my first few wears, however damage is easily repairable with Aquaseal. In cold weather, I use Mavericks in conjunction with a set of NRS Mamba pogies, which are far warmer in really cold weather. I use the Mavericks for launching and landing, and at times when I need manual dexterity while my hands need to remain covered. I use the pogies for long distance paddling when it's very cold, and when I want to quickly withdraw my bare hands for photography, binoculars, GPS, etc. The pogies go on and off easily. It's harder to get the Maverick gloves on and off because of the waterproof cuffs, and when the gloves get wet inside. However, by rolling the waterproof cuffs down (turning them inside out) the glove is shortened and getting them on and off is easier. It's just a trick you need to learn to deal with this glove. On the whole, I like the Mavericks. They would probably be too warm in summer, however mine have not seen a summer yet . . .

Merchant response: Nice long review. One correction though. The Maverick is made of 2-mm thick neoprene, so there is that amount of closed cell foam insulation.
