I bought this for use under either my one piece NRS dry suit or Kokatat dry top and NRS blacktop pants for winter water sports. I have had great results with other Kokatat gear over the years but not with this one. The sizing and fit were all wrong. After trying it several times and not figuring it out I returned it to NRS and got their version of the union suit. That one fits great and saves you a few bucks too.

Hello
Im new at kayaking and Im having trouble trying to find out if this Kokatat liner is all I need to wick moisture from my body and also provide insulation in one product when wearing under my Kokatat GFER Drysuit in centeral California coastal waters. Or does it only provide the base or wicking layer, requiring me to purchase and add an insulating fabric such as fleece to keep me warm. I understand the colder the water, the more insulation needed to layer over the base layer. But does this liner have any insulating ability at all so I can start with it in warmer water and add to it as the water gets colder? I can't seem to find basic information to go by conserning what to wear under a drysuit for a given water temprature. Thank you

Assuming the water is 32', John, I say wearing it alone under the dry suit will suffice in the late fall and early spring. I am a whitewater kayaker( in New England) so I can't compare what coastal water is like in terms of windchill. I assume you are a sea kayaker not really planning an immersion. However, when your splashed-on lifejacket zipper starts to freeze shut, it's time to consider some long underwear. My boyfriend, who this product was a gift for, prefers the EMS lightweight polypro variety. My hands always get cold first, a warning sign of a cold core. I find that a good hat and the NRS mittens get the job done instead of extra clothing. All in all, it's a great garment and very comfortable next to the skin. I hope this helps.

I would go with the large so you won't have the chance of feeling restricted movement. Also, you might want to wear light long underwear under it in an extremely cold venue. Lastly, I don't know if there is any expected shrinkage in the washer/dryer.
