  • The silky smooth fabric fits snugly against your skin to prevent the abrasion your outer clothing layers can sometimes cause.

  • Our Men's HydroSilk Pants feature a convenient boxer-style fly for when you need to "go" on the go.

  • A comfortable elastic waist band keeps your HydroSilk Pants where you want them.

  • Worn as a base layer under splash pants or dry wear, the 8-oz. nylon-spandex blend draws moisture away from your skin to help keep you warm and dry.

  • Worn under shorts, these pants provide a lightweight buffer against cool air. Plus, UPF 50+ UV protection shields your skin from the sun.

  • Durable flat-lock seams lie flat on your skin for comfortable, chafe-free wear.

Comments about NRS Men's HydroSilk Pants:

I use these pants as outerwear for sun protection while kayak-sailing on lakes and at sea in the summer. I like these pants because they're form-fitting so they don't flap in the wind like regular nylon fishing/camping pants would. I also like that they dry quickly, yet, if I get too hot I can slip into the water.

These pants feel true to size (I used the NRS sizing table), but they really do need ankle zippers, as I have to stretch the ankle holes to the fabric's limit to get my size 9.5 feet through. (I don't have large feet.)

Lastly, I'd like these pants even more if they had a waist tie. I know they're a base layer, but in the summer they're GREAT as an outer layer too.

Other than those two minor drawbacks, they're great!

I plan on wearing these under drypants for a little extra insulation. The large per the sizing chart fit but were just a little too snug. Went with the XL. Still tight enough to do what they're supposed to do (wick away moisture) but not binding.

            Q:

Presumably hydrosilk and hydroskin would be better that Patagonia's capilene as a base layer, yet both dry quickly. Why is hydrosilk and hydroskin better? How much better? Perhaps it is better at certain water temperatures or climates. If so, at temperature or climates would it be better?

I've never tried the other brands so I can't say which is better. I wear these under thin wool for kayaking then the dry pants. I went for a swim in some cold water a few weeks ago. They do the job of getting the water away from your skin.
I ordered a size larger than recommended and they fit good.

              Hi,
I have both hydrosilk and capilene. The capilene feels heavier when wet than the hydrosilk.
The hydrosilk has a tighter comfortable fit. I have found the hydrosilk to work great in cold temps
When kayaking in the winter on the St. Lawrence river temperatures ranging from 40-20, I've also been using the hydrosilk to run in lately instead of my Patagonia. I hope this helps

HydroSilk and capilene are both made with synthetic yarns that don't absorb water in the actual fiber. HydroSilk is nylon/spandex and capilene, i believe, is polyester/spandex. Since the fibers don't hold water they pass your body moisture through and dry quickly.
HydroSkin is a different animal. It is a lightweight wetsuit garment. 0.5 mm of closed cell neoprene is sandwiched between stretchy nylon material. So, wet or dry that neoprene is insulating your body. HydroSkin doesn't breathe, except in the HydroSilk underarm anti-chafe panels.
So, HydroSilk makes a great base layer under dry wear and as a rashguard under wetsuits. Also, with its 50+ UPF sun protection it makes a great outerwear piece by itself. HydroSkin works great by itself and as a layering piece. Both have their uses and watersports folks of all types have come to love them.

hydrosilk sheds water better than capilene. The fabric seems to have a coating on the surface that capilene doesn't have, not sure about this but it feels different. Fabric is made with more nylon perhaps and this is why it looks like a coating, not really sure. Capilene is more breathable and loose fitting. The hydrosilk is stretchy and feels completely different than the capilene. I don't think hydrosilk is better, I have both. Hydrosilk is more conforming and tight on your body, seems to hold in the heat a little more. I wear silk weight capilene on hot days, it is very breathable. Hydrosilk I only wear when I think I might get cold.
              Hope this helps.

I use hydroskin pants in the winter time in florida if I plan on teaching any rolling or reentry for sea kayaking. Hydroskin is better than Patagonias capiline because once the hydroskin is wet, it keeps you warm. Just like a neoprene wet suit. Capiline losses most of its warmth once it gets wet. Hydroskin however takes longer to dry.
I personally perfer hydroskin/hydrosilk for its warmth when wet, not how fast it dries.
              Hope this helps!

It seems to hold body warm better when wet. It allowed more comfort in cold water under a wet suit.
We were in Baja diving. I also wear the hydrosilk top paddling on cool windy days as a layer for warmth.

These are exactly what you want for a rash guard under a wet suit. They are thin and won't stop the jellies all by themselves though. I have 3 pairs doing double-duty for kayaking. They wick away moisture nicely so when you take them off you're pretty much dry already.

Hi there, there is nothing that I am aware of to prevent "sea lice" from entering your wetsuit and stinging you. If they are small enough to get through your wetsuit fibers, they should get into these as well. These pants are for wicking away moisture or for preventing chafing and I doubt will help. Get them for one of those reasons and you'll be happy. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will help with the tiny jellyfish. Good luck.

Regarding the NRS Men's Hydrosilk Pants, I consider the material to be
relatively sturdy and I would give it a "medium" as far as thickness goes. It's
thicker than typical spandex, but not the thickest I have seen. I can only
guess as to how effective it would be against jellies. If you find normal light
spandex protects you, then I would assume these would do an even better job.
You probably going to have to just buy them and find out yourself.
              Good Luck!
I hope they work out for you.
