Comments about NRS Stampede Paddling Jacket:

I originally ordered a Dry suite top, I found the neck gasket was much too constricting for me (although others don't seem to mind it). The Stampede Semi-Dry neck gasket is much more comfortable and I don't believe it will leak a significant amount of water. I've paddled with it several times but since the temps have not been above freezing I haven't tested it's under-water performance.

    • NRS Stampede Paddling Jacket

      Q:

Hi, I was trying to find more information on fit. I'm 6'2 165, 31 inch waist, skinny wrists, not sure what my chest is but probably high 30's. I currently own a powerhouse jacket sized medium. Should I use the same sizing or should I go up one. I did try a powerhouse large which fit ok but the arms felt baggy. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Matt, you're quite slender. Sounds like the Medium should work for you. If not, our returns/exchange is painless and free.

Matt, I'm 6' 1", 190 pounds, 33" waist, 44" chest, I bought the XL and I'm very happy with the fit. One important fact to consider is what you plan to wear under the jacket. Some folks wear all their layers under the jacket while I wear my thicker top (e.g. fleece) over the jacket so I can easily remove it as I tend to get warm after paddling a short time. So if you plan to wear a bulkier item under the jacket you may want to go with the XL, otherwise you may want to go down a size. Your smaller wrists should not be an issue as the wrist gaskets are tight. Also, NRS has a great return policy so if you don't like the fit you can easily exchange it. Hope this helps.

I'm 5'8" w/ 42"chest. Would a large have enough room under-layers or do I need the extra large? Temps starting in mid 30's

Mark, the jacket is cut generously for layering underneath, so the Large should be fine.

        I am 5'11" and have a 44" chest (43.5" actual measurement). I just got
this a few days ago, and the local lakes were actually locking back up with
        ice again (I'm a flatwater paddler)... so I haven't actually gotten a
chance to use this yet, but I should this coming weekend. I didn't get
this for layering, and at my size, it would get snug quickly with more
layers. Even at my size, I have full range of motion in this thing
(wearing just a long-sleeved tee under it)... at your size, you could
probably add at least a thermal underlayer and a heavy fleece. I
personally wanted something without extra space, with a more snug fit...
this works great for me. Hope that helps.

Mark, Just to give you a reference point - I'm 6' 1" with a 44" chest, I have an extra large Paddling Jacket which fits well with some layers underneath. Also I put my fleece overtop the paddling jacket which allows me to un-zip or remove it while paddling. Originally I wore the fleece under the jacket but would overheat once I started paddling. Like you I also paddle in cold conditions. I really like this jacket, much more than the dry top with the neck gasket that I found very un-comfortable.
