Comments about NRS Men's Black Rock Dry Pants:

I originally received a pair of dry pants as a gift. After a year the gaskets gave way and tore. I sent an email to the great folks at NRS describing my situation. They had me send in the dry pants so they could assess them. After about a week or so I got an email saying they were sending me a new pair. Since receiving these, I've used them about 10 times. I wore them with just a bathing suit underneath on the Nantahala and was very comfortable. I've also worn them with wetsuit pants underneath recently and was pleased with how warm I was. When we were building waves recently on several rivers, I had to be in the water for quite along time moving rocks around. I did notice light leakage coming from somewhere in the pants legs. When I got out of the water, I had to empty out the legs. Overall I like the pants very much and am very pleased with the high level professionalism shown my this company. I would highly recommend any of their products to anyone in my sport. I also own an NRS throwbag which I can say for sure has rescued at least four people being swept away by the fast waters of the Ocoee River.

                Q:

What is the difference between dry pants and splash pants?
Asked on 2/23/2013 by Hilo sailor from Hilo, Hi

                  A:

Dry pants have either latex ankle gaskets or waterproof socks, where splash pants have some sort closure, usually a hook-and-loop strap, that impedes water entry but is not waterproof. Also, the waist closure of a dry pant is snugger and more water resistant, though not really waterproof unless combined with a dry top and perhaps a sprayskirt tunnel. Hope that helps.

Dry Pants are intended to keep you dry, except for water that may get in
through the waist band or from the ankle. Splash Pants are basically
useless, if your goal is to stay dry.

My understanding is that dry pants have latex gaskets on the ankles for complete waterproof. Splash do not.

I wear wet suit pants under the dry pants. In my opinion if your going three the hassle of wearing dry pants to stay warm why not do it right.

Fleece or poly depending on temps. Definitely not a wet suit.

I layer with poly pro. I choose the thickness appropriate for the temperature. I use my bicycle long pants quite often because of the fit. I have 2 pair of these pants. They are tough.

Much depends on what type of boating you're doing. Take a look at our Safety Source archive for info on layering - http://www.nrsweb.com/services/newsletter/newsletter_safety_tips.asp?tn=274. And give us a call with any questions.
