Comments about NRS Women's Carolina Pants:

I bought this because I get wet sitting out on the trampoline of a small trimaran. The water is now about 62 and depending on the waves, sometimes I am sitting in water or splashed by it and I wanted a waterproof pant. I have now used it three times, and each time, it feels like I'm getting wet inside (I seem to be feeling the cold through it), but I am completely dry. I probably also should get a neoprene or fleece short to wear under it for some warmth. It has a roomy seat for that.

Comments about NRS Women's Carolina Pants:

Was worried about ordering online as sizing can be tricky...every body type is different. After reading several reviews specific to my questions, and seeing them in person on a fellow kayaker, I went ahead and ordered them. I have only worn them on one paddle but was pleased with the fit and comfort. I am 5'3" but not petite in the hip/thigh area. Last Saturday, I went on a 10.25 mile Class I paddle with lots of riffles, wave trains (one big enough to splash into boat over a half skirt and loved how the water just beaded up and dried up quickly), maneuvering, single file elements, and I was comfortable all day. Was able to layer over base layer with room to spare. I'm sure they will fit over wetsuit as well. Am glad I went ahead with purchase of these pants and hope they continue to serve me well on these cold paddling days (I paddle year round in southcentral Kentucky). So far so good!

I am a "sit on top" kayaker that doesn't want to stop in the winter...getting wet is fine when it's hot, but not in the cold months! Got these pants to stay dry and warm while paddling with the winter bird migration, rivers, streams and lakes. They are COMFORTABLE around the waist: keep me completely dry but don't choke my middle. Easy on and off...I wear long underwear underneath and stay quite toasty and dry.

No they are not stretchy. Waist band is but pants are nylon. Don't

Not sure about Hydrosilk pants I have Hydroskins - they're a whole
different fit than the Carolina. Hydroskins are more shape forming and
stretchy as you say. The Carolina pants are baggier and have a looser fit.
You can wear layers under them. Waist line cinches as do ankles.

I would assume the sizing is similar. A "medium" equals a "medium", and a "large" equals a "large".
The NRS womens Carolina pants only stretch at the waist band. The legs of the pants do NOT stretch and are baggy. The ankles stretch only a tiny bit.
The NRS womens Caroline pants do not have re-inforced material on the buttocks. These pants are quite slippery when sitting in a rubber raft. The pants do have grippy/re-inforced material on the knees,

While the Carolina and HydroSilk pants use the same sizing chart, they have different designs and purposes. The HydroSilk pants are meant to be form fitting and the woven material is quite stretchy. The woven material in the Carolina Pants is not very stretchy, has a waterproof-breathable coating and is cut roomy so you can add insulating layers underneath. We have added some polyurethane-coated stretch panels in the hip area to add to mobility. Let us know if I haven't fully answered your questions.

these are comfortable splash pants, a waterproof but light material with stretchy band top and velcro leg cuffs. they are more form fitting than some. wife appreciates that.
they are not stretchy except for the top band.
they are used over hydrosilks or other base layer for warmth in winter or over shorts on a rainy or windy summer day.
We use them for kayaks but they are not drypants and you will get wet if immersed while wearing them.
the plus is comfort, no latex gaskets to choke or chafe, as long as conditions are right.

                Q:

First question -- are the NRS Women's Carolina pants waterproof during long periods of immersion? I'm a fish biologist and am looking for something to keep me dry when we sample fish (something more comfortable than neoprene waders with the boots over the too-thick attached socks).

Second question -- neoprene waders, on the positive side, don't conduct electricity when we electroshock fish. Do these pants?

The material in these pants is waterproof. However, water will come in the cuffs if you step into water. Check out our dry pants, which either have latex gaskets at the ankles, or socks. On the electrical conductance, I can't say for sure but I don't believe the relatively thin fabric would protect you from shock.

They are totally waterproof, but it's hard not to get some leakage at waist and cuff. Can't speak to electrical resistance.

                  Hello.
I only wear these NRS Carolina pants when I use my sit-on-top boat in the
early spring and late fall when it is too chilly here in NJ to
sit in cold water all day. The Carolina's keep me dry, but I am not fully
immersed in water. I have no idea whether these pants
                  conduct electricity or not.

These are splash pants.  They are only meant to keep water off you while boating.  If you want waterproof pants, you need a dry suit or dry pants.

We have some of these. They are not drypants and have no latex ankle gaskets to prevent water entry.
Therefore they would not keep water out for wading. They are great splash pants for rafting or kayaking as long as there is no immersion.
Don't know about the electrical issue.

I'm wondering about the weight of the material for warm days. I live in sub-tropical Florida (Zone10) and would like to wear these in the winter to keep dry. Our days can be 40 in the mornig and warm up to 80 in the afternoon. I want a pant to keep me dry but not necessarily warm. Also I want a material that is quiet and doesn't make noise like a crinkle sound. Do you have them in other colors like blue or pink or beige or anything other than black for our FL sun? Is the material comfortable against the skin or would you reccomend an underlayer for comfort? Are returns store credit only? Thanks!

I really like the pants, but they will be warm when it heats up. I live in south TX and it gets quite warm here too even after a cooler morning. I would probably just take them off at that point. I have mostly used them when it's really cooler and often have something underneath. I don't find them really "noisy."

The HyproTex material in the Carolina Pants is supple (no crinkle) and feels okay against the skin. It has good breathability so that'll help with heat buildup. If your legs are inside a kayak or you can splash on some water when it's hot you'll probably be okay in the 80s. Sorry it's only available in the black. These pants are black which will absorb the heat faster than other colors.
These pants will keep you dry.I use them in a sit-on-top kayak in the early
spring and late fall in NJ when
the water temps can be quite chilly, and I am basically sitting in water for
5-6 hours. We dress for the temperature of the water, not the air
temperature up here, and they will keep you dry if you dump with
the rubber gaskets on both the ankles and waist. I would not dream of
wearing them in warmer weather since they can get quite warm and moist from
your body heat. I have paddled my sea kayak in northern Florida in
March (Amelia Island) and I did not wear any 'dry pants'. Since I don't
know what you are paddling, it is hard to recommend. The material is a
little stiffer too and does make a 'crinkle' sound, but that is the
                  tradeoff for dry pants.

I LOVE these pants. I normally wear a size 10 and ordered the large and they are easy to wear and look good as well. They do have plenty of room to layer and still be comfortable. Out of necessity, I have actually worn tights and jeans under them on a very cold, windy, rainy day out deep sea fishing. Based on that, I'd say the XL would fit you well and still have room for base layers, wetsuit, etc.
On a separate note, they call them "splash pants" but I have never had a drop of water penetrate the fabric even when kayaking and stepping out of the boat into the water. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

From my 5'2" wife for whom i bought these:
                  "For a size 4 a small. For a 6 a medium - c'mon, be honest ;)
If you have anything more than long underwear they run a little small."

I just purchased these and used them yesterday in my sea kayak. I'm 5'4" and usually a size 8 - I got these in a Med. and they fit perfect at the waist, which is critical since the neoprene isn't meant to expand a lot but you want a snug enough fit that water can't get in easily. The legs were just a bit long but they have Velcro to close them off with and the extra length meant they weren't too short when I sat down in my kayak. There is a good amount of room to wear an insulating layer under them. If you are a size 4 then the small should fit.
