The most comfortable piece of neoprene you will ever wear. Cut and designed for women this HydroSkin™ shirt will keep you warm on those warm days when the water is cold and makes a great base layer for cold weather.
  • 0.5-mm Terraprene™ neoprene layer keeps you insulated and stretches easily.

  • ThermalPlush™ inner lining increases insulation, repels moisture and dries quickly.

  • 4-way stretch PowerSpan™ outer layer allows easy, unrestricted mobility.

  • Spandex underarms eliminate binding, adding to this top's superior function either as a single outer layer or as a base layer.

  • Titanium laminate adhesive aids in body heat retention.

  • DWR coating forces water to "bead" and roll off the material.

I am 5'4", size 16, (one size above "average" in the US) and this shirt in XXL did not even come CLOSE to fitting me. Ended up with the XXL men's version, which did a wonderful job keeping me warm on a cold day.

The more whitewater kayaking I do, the more I run up against the wall when it comes to finding gear in my size - and it's never women's. Due to my height, men's gear often is way too long in the waist.

Comments about NRS Women's HydroSkin Shirt - L/S:

Bought hydro skin shirt and pants to wear as base layers for a Tough Mudder event. Smartest thing I have done in a while. The skins prevented the water from feeling as cold as it truly was... Thus I did not shiver like my friends.

The only negative? The neck opening is very small. I have a big melon, so getting the shirt over my head is a challenge. Otherwise, I am 5'8" and weigh 143lbs. The medium shirt and pants fit close to the body which was perfect. Good quality!

Very disappointed in the fit. I bought a size larger than the chart indicated based on input from a friend but the cut was not for me. Probably best for extremely thin people.

I swim in an outdoor spring that's 68 degrees year round. I've been using 2 bathing suits, 2 caps and a rash guard in the winter to stay warm. There's often snow on the ground, so hydroskin shirt will make my swims considerably more comfortable.

Comments about NRS Women's HydroSkin Shirt - L/S:

I bought this for a fall Grand Canyon trip. I agree with another reviewer. The sizes run small. I am also a size 16. The XXL fit, but was not very comfortable. And I didn't wear it as much as I should have. I also bought a splash jacket and had to get a mens as the women's sizes are too small. Men's sizes do not translate to women sizes. Please consider designing a womens size. We are out there and when spending [$] for a shirt, I would like it to fit.

Bought this mainly for kayaking with some hydroskin pants, but felt restricted by close fit. Tried it for swimming today and it works fine. Plenty warm enough, and flexible enough in actual use. Material is lovely and light, but warm. Just a little disappointed with the flex on the shoulders for kayaking.

              Q:

              Hi. Just two questions:
How do you care for this item, i.e. machine wash, what kind of soap, etc?

And then, what is the recommended fit. Snug all over, slightly fitted, etc?

                A:

Tracy, HydroSkin should be handwashed and air dried. Use a mild soap and the very best one is McNett Wetsuit & Drysuit Shampoo, Item # 2249.

HydroSkin is a thin wetsuit garment. To work most efficiently a wetsuit should fit snug to the body to minimize water entry and exchange, which takes heat away from you.

I hand wash it after every use with clear fresh water and neoprene "Sink the
Stink" type product which basically kills any bacteria growth in the
neoprene. I do not put it in the washing machine. I always wear a
Hydrosilk shirt under it so it's never next to my skin. I still use the
first one I every bought probably about 8 years ago and use it very often.
If it does get a bit soiled, I spot treat it with a mild soap. Great shirt
for added warmth. Fit I like best is snug all over. If you are normally
let's say a medium in a shirt, I'd go with a medium in the hydroskin as
                well.

I don't put it in the washing machine. I'm pretty sure it says 'no machine washing' on the label.
I rinse it and let it dry after use and every once in a while I dunk it in a MiraZyme bath, although I've never noticed any odor..
Mine is very snug on me, but I have a fairly athletic upper body.

Here are my answers to the two questions, but I'm sure there are other takes on both!
I machine wash neoprene pants and top on gentle with powdered Tide. I just noticed that NRS sells a neoprene "shampoo" that I would like to try. I've had the pants about two years, and they show few signs of wear. (Neoprene gets really smelly fast.)
Like a rash guard, neoprene should fit snugly because that's how it keeps you warm, but it should still be comfortable. If you plan on swimming in it, it will stretch quite a bit when really wet. If it is loose, it won't keep you warm as effectively, and it will just hang when wet.

Typically I just rinse it out and hang it to dry. You can also hand wash or
machine wash with a mild liquid detergent and hang to dry.
If you are using it in a pool you definitely want it to fit snuggly because
it stretches when wet. If you are using it to kayak you want it to be
comfortable. I bought it snug fitting, but still comfortable. Keep in mind
that it has rash guard under the arms which helps with mobility.
