NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: Where is this jacket made? Where does the material come from? Is it ethically sourced and manufactured? Asked on 5/20/2013 by Just Wondering Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: The jacket is made in Asia. We have done business with the factory for years and only continue to do so because they meet very strict best-practices standards. NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: I odered a size small in the women's jacket, and it feels very snug. (5'7", 125lbs.) How are these suppose to fit? Are you suppose to buy them snug? or should I go up a size? Asked on 1/9/2013 by b. from Mass. Know the answer? Answer this question 9 answers A: Mine is a bit snug - I can still move my arms to paddle and lift my kayak. If it's loose you don't get the same warmth. Hope that helps! Answered on 1/9/2013 by Anonymous A: If you are going to snorkel or do a lot of swimming, get it tight. If you are going to paddle and just get splashed, get a larger size. Answered on 1/9/2013 by Anonymous A: Depends on what you plan to wear underneath. I ordered up a size and am happy with it. But I plan to wear more than a rash guard underneath. If you plan bulky stuff underneath you might even go up 2 sizes. I'm wearing over a mid to heavyweight base layer. If you are planning to actually be in the water, you want a snug fit. If for thermal and damp protection a looser fit is probably warmer. Answered on 1/9/2013 by Anonymous A: I'd go up a size. You may want to put a layer under it so definitely don't want it too tight. I'm 5'3" and 115 and got the medium after trying the small. If you paddle you probably have shoulders and that's where it seemed to run small. Medium was still nice and fitted. Enjoy! Answered on 1/9/2013 by wyorafter from Wyoming A: The hydroskin fabric is very stretchy, and a snug fit is better than a loose fit (less water circulates, so warmer). The person wearing this jacket I bought is 5'6" and 130 lbs (although body shape varies). If you can stand wearing it around the house for an hour (not too snug), then keep the small (it does tend to stretch out a bit, especially in warmer weather) – if you can't, then try the medium. Answered on 1/9/2013 by Anonymous A: I think it depends on your use for the jacket. I bought a small as well and I am 5'-3" and weigh 125 lbs. I initially bought it to use in a kayak pool rolling class because I would get very cold after being in the water for over an hour. The jacket stretches when wet so if you are using it in wet conditions you want it to be snug when dry. In addition I ended up using it a lot more than my dry suit on paddles in the Fall and Spring. I did not notice how snug it was when I was paddling--maybe because it has the rash guard underarms and the pfd always feels a bit snug anyway. It felt more comfortable than a dry suit in most situations. I hope this helps. Answered on 1/9/2013 by Anonymous A: For warmth when immersed in water, a wetsuit garment needs to fit skintight snug to minimize water entry and exchange. If you're not used to wearing wetsuits, a proper snug fit can feel "very snug." However, you don't want a wetsuit to be so tight that it restricts movement and is so uncomfortable you won't wear it. Also, if you plan to wear any layers underneath, you need to plan for that. One suggestion: order a Medium, then return one. Our Hassle-Free return system is free and easy. Answered on 1/9/2013 by Clyde from NRS A: Snug is good. When I first tried the jacket it felt so snug I thought my breath was shortened. However, after a day of paddling Class IV, the fit no longer felt snug. I think the fabric stretches just a little bit. On the other hand you may want to go up a size if you are running. Paddling involves full torso rotation which would loosen the fit just right. I don't know if you would have the same experience with running. Answered on 1/9/2013 by Anonymous A: The jacket does fit snugly, which is perfect. At first I too thought it was too snug but getting out on the water I found it moved with me. You actually do want it snug so it keeps you warmer. It has become my favourite paddling piece! Answered on 1/10/2013 by Anonymous
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: I do water running in a pool but find I get cold between exercises. Will this product work well in a pool? Also is it easy to get on and off? I live in Atlantic Canada, do you have a distributor of your products here? Thank you Asked on 1/2/2013 by Jan from Halifax NS Know the answer? Answer this question 5 answers A: Yes, this is great, I swim in an indoor heated pool and still get cold but I wear this jacket and also to Capri pants that go with it and I'm great! It's thin enough to still swim, even freestyle stroke but warm enough too. Easy to get on and off too, I love it, best purchase ever. Ia Lao wear it in the cold lakes. Val Sent from my iPad Answered on 1/2/2013 by Valerie from Oakland A: I have worn it in a pool for kayak roll and paddling classes. It works well in the pool and moves freely. I also like the jacket better then shirt because the zipper makes it easy to get on and off. Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4GLTE Phone Answered on 1/2/2013 by Anonymous A: Jan, the HydroSkin Jacket should work well for your pool sessions. The high chlorine content in most pools is hard on neoprene, so be sure to rinse the jacket thoroughly in fresh water after each use. Go to our Dealer Locator - http://www.nrsweb.com/services/dealerlocator.asp - to find a shop in your area. You can also reach our International Team by email, inter@nrsweb.com. Answered on 1/3/2013 by Clyde from NRS A: I really can recommend this Hydroskin Jacket. It´s well fitting and as a second skin, easy to wear. Love it! Answered on 1/7/2013 by Anonymous A: Yes, this jacket is easy to peel off as it has the full zip down the front. I can see no reason that it would not work well in a pool. I use it for cold weather kayaking...and wanted something I did not have to pull tightly over my head. All the best, Penny Answered on 1/14/2013 by Anonymous
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: Which is more important....height or weight? I am 5'9" and 128 pounds....... Asked on 1/1/2013 by Andy Know the answer? Answer this question 6 answers A: I am 5'8.5" and 140 lbs. I have a NRS Ultra Jane wetsuit in Medium (Large was too big in the body), and a Medium Hydroskin top to go with it. However, I ordered a HydroSkin jacket to be worn over other clothing so I got a Large and am happy with it. Works well over one or two base layer garments. If I had something thicker I would go up another size. I wanted something that was easy on and off. My experience with the wetsuit was that weight was more important than height. Answered on 1/1/2013 by Anonymous A: Probably least important, try to best match with respect to the anatomy sizing data, i.e. bust, waist, hips and use height for arm length guess. The cuts may not work for you if you have long arms. Good luck. Answered on 1/1/2013 by Bronco Billy from San Jose, CA A: You're too thin! Weight is more important Answered on 1/1/2013 by Anonymous A: Typically, weight is the better "tie-breaker." You'll also want to look at the other sizing dimensions, especially the bust measurements. Also, we make exchanges easy and free. Answered on 1/2/2013 by Clyde from NRS A: I am your physical opposite - short and dumpy. XL Jacket is long on me and fits tight and well. Just paddled 40 deg water with overcast sky at 6000 ft elevation. This jacket and a paddle jacket kept me warm and comfortable. Note that I do not get cold easily. Answered on 1/3/2013 by Anonymous A: I would say both. In your case, your height ( length of jacket & sleeves) will be off set by your weight; meaning the jacket won't need to stretch width wise. I think the sleeves and jacket length will work. Hope this helps. Enjoy! Sent from my iPhone Answered on 1/4/2013 by Anonymous
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: I am looking for a long sleeve zip front jacket for snorkeling in Hawaii in late April. The water temperature is around 75-80 degrees. I was originally looking at 2-3mm wetsuit tops. How does this material compare? What water temperatures is it best for? Asked on 12/23/2012 by Minnie Know the answer? Answer this question 4 answers A: I bought this jecket to swim in 63-69 tem water. This jecket is realy warm. I also bought farmer Jane Hidroskin and 2 mm farmer Jane. With this jecket under Farmer Jane 2mm I am fine at 65. When ist warmer i wear jecket and FJ hidroskin Sent from my iPhone Answered on 1/3/2013 by Anonymous A: For most folks HydroSkin will be great in 75-80 degree water. Answered on 12/23/2012 by Clyde from NRS A: Perfect for Hawaii... that's where I live and it is the right weight for that time of year. Answered on 12/23/2012 by Susie from Maui, Hawaii A: Sorry. My daughter only used it for spring rafting. The open neck (even though a little) would let cold water in to your core, exactly where you don't want it. I think you want a higher neck, even if light weight. I have a NRS shorty wet suit with a scoop neck and cold water floods right in. Good luck Answered on 12/23/2012 by Anonymous
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: Has anyone worn the hydro skin jacket in a long distance triathlon as or with another, wetsuit? Asked on 12/3/2012 by Rulyjuly from North carolina Know the answer? Answer this question 5 answers A: I haven't done a long distance triathlon but purchased the hydro skin jacket to wear it along with the farmer Jane wetsuit, and I have to say that I absolutely love it. First time I wore it was at Zoar during a white water kayaking training weekend in early April in Vermont. The jacket is light but does keep you warm. Answered on 12/3/2012 by Anonymous A: No, for triathlons, and no, not yet for over a wetsuit. I bought a large (instead of medium) to fit over other clothes. And I will likely try it with my Ultra Jane and Hydroskin shirt. (when a 7mm wetsuit is not needed). Mostly I got it to take as a warm layer for cave surveying and it fits fine over my base layer and even a polartec vest (and under a nylon cave suit). Surveying in 54 degree muddy or wet crawlways can get quite cool - not moving quick enough to stay warm. I like it that the jacket takes up no more space that an additional warm base layer. The jacket is nicer than a hydroskin shirt because of the ease of taking it on and off. Answered on 12/4/2012 by Anonymous A: I bought this jacket for swimming. I also bought Hidroskin farmer Jane and 2mm Farmer Jane to use at different water temperatures. I wear jacket inside my Farmer Jane and it is very comfortable and jacket stays in place. I am not a long distance swimmer, just .5 mile and I swim free style. I hope this helps. Good luck, Susanna Answered on 12/5/2012 by Anonymous A: Laura, our retail sales manager, is a triathlete. She says she would not recommend it for that usage. Give her a call - 800.635.5202 - she'll be glad to talk triathlon with you! Answered on 12/5/2012 by Clyde from NRS A: I have not worn this in a triathlon, in fact i just purchased and only have worn it once. I wore it in 40 degrees and it was way too warm for that temp. Once i started paddling, it was over kill. Hope this helps Answered on 12/3/2012 by Anonymous
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: Another sizing question: I'm 5'5", 155# and shortwaisted with a large chest (40" around, 36D), fairly narrow shoulders and slender arms. Normally I like neoprene paddling garments to be snug, but not crushingly tight or restrictive in the shoulders. I have no experience with NRS upper garments sizing but wear a large in Kokatat. I'll be wearing this for kayaking over either a speedo (most of the time) or a 3mm Farmer Jane. Might also want to wear it as an insulating layer under my drysuit. Would a large be too tight for me? I'm on the cusp size wise but worry the XL would be too baggy to function well. Asked on 11/9/2012 by willowleaf from Pittsburgh, PA Know the answer? Answer this question 3 answers A: HI, This is a fabulous jacket! I purchased this jacket in a med size and wear it over my farmer Jane suit and second skin long sleeve shirt. I am 5'2, 36 B and broad shoulder and the Medium size fits well. Although u may have a larger size cup, I think your narrow shoulders will do fine with a Md, they are supposed to fit snug for insulation. If you still have a doubt, order both Md & Lg and return the other. Remember that it does stretch quite a bit as well. Hope this helps. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone Answered on 11/9/2012 by Anonymous A: You'll probably get some good feedback from folks who've worn the HS Jacket. Also, our Hassle-Free Returns process makes it easy to decide. You can order both sizes and keep the one that fits best. Answered on 11/9/2012 by Clyde from NRS A: I am 5"-3", 125 lbs. and bought the small, though I typically wear a medium. I wear it over a rash guard and farmer Jane and though it is snug it is comfortable enough to paddle due to the rash guard fabric under the arms. I bought it mostly to keep me warm in the water while practicing rolling for longer periods of time. Because neoprene loosens up when wet I went with the small, but it has worked out well with paddling and I tend to prefer it over my dry suit. I think the XL will be too big on you. NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: I get cold easily in early spring, late fall WW runs. The size chart indicates that I should buy the XS (I am 5'1", 100 lbs.) So my question is whether I need to allow for a thin heavy duty fleece layer underneath and therefore buy the Small. Of course I would be wearing a dry top too. Asked on 10/12/2012 by anne from OH Know the answer? Answer this question 4 answers A: Since this jacket seems to be sized to fit snuggly, I would suggest ordering a size or 2 larger in order to put a light fleece under it. I bought this jacket a size larger and wear a base layer under it although my base layer has a smooth side on the outside and the warm feel of fleece on the inside. It is also thin and fits snuggly. Gayle Answered on 10/12/2012 by yaksister from Northwest Indiana A: Can't say for sure, but this fits very tightly. It sounds like you are very petite. My daughter and my experience is that it is very narrow for us through the shoulders, so it may depend on the width of your shoulders. If you want to wear something underneath, I would definitely go for a larger size. Answered on 10/13/2012 by Anonymous A: I wear multiple layers of polypro type fabric (underarmour) when using a drytop. I believe hydroskin and similar neoprene suits work best when wet. But the xs size will work with thin layers underneath. Answered on 10/13/2012 by Anonymous A: My wife is that size and her extra small would not allow for the fleece layer comfortably Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE DROID Answered on 10/14/2012 by Anonymous
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: Can this jacket be used in a chlorinated pool without breaking down? Asked on 9/29/2012 by Gloria from VA Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: The chlorine in pools is very hard on neoprene garments like HydroSkin. To minimize the damage, rinse thoroughly with fresh water after each use. Wetsuit & Drysuit Shampoo, Item # 2249, helps neutralize chlorine. Answered on 9/29/2012 by Clyde from NRS
NRS Women's HydroSkin Jacket Q: I'm wondering how the sizing of the Hydroskin Jacket compares to that of the Long Sleeve top. I tried the top on at REI in a medium (I'm 5'8" 147 lbs. - smaller chest) and it was just slightly too tight. The medium capri bottoms fit though. Is the jacket slightly roomier than the shirt - or would your recommend going up to the large? Asked on 8/30/2012 by Rebs Know the answer? Answer this question 8 answers A: Go to the Large Hydroskin Jacket. I wear Medium Hydroskin bottoms and and XL Jacket-- larger chest. I hope this helps Answered on 8/30/2012 by yaksister from Northwest Indiana A: I found their products tend to run small, so I would recommend getting the larger size. Mine is too tight under the arms, so I just keep it as a spare but don't normally use it as uncomfortable. Answered on 8/30/2012 by Jetskiier from Olympia, WA A: I am a short and mid-weight (much) older woman (5'2", 125#, close to 70), shaped kind of square. The medium top makes me suck my breath in, and feel somewhat sausage-like. However, it does its job! I use the medium mid-thigh neoprenes without difficulty. I'd say it's worth trying the medium (I think your weight is far better distributed than mine) and making an exchange if it isn't right. Large might give too much opening to water. Good luck! /z Answered on 8/30/2012 by Anonymous A: I am 5' 7'' female 126-131 pounds and 34b bra size. The nes jacket size small fits me snuggly. I haven't tried the shirt but the jacket is more comfortable than my pull over rash guard. I love it am even wear it to swim in the pool, Sent from my iPhone Answered on 8/30/2012 by Anonymous A: I haven't tried on the womens' hydroskin shirt but I own the hydroskin jacket in a small. It is a slim fit and for me the sleeves are a little short, but I am 5'11'' tall and about 130lbs. You want the neoprene to fit snugly, but the medium might be more comfortable. NRS is great about returns, so I usually order both sizes and return the one that doesn't fit. Hope that helps! Answered on 8/30/2012 by Anonymous A: I've never worn the shirts but had to go up a size in the jacket. 5'3", 110#. I don't have a big chest and the small jacket was too small --mostly under the arms. Medium jacket fit great. Small pants fit fine. The HS jacket and pants (and sox) are one the best investments I've made. Highly recommend. Answered on 8/31/2012 by wyorafter from Wyoming A: I would think the medium jacket would be ok for you. I am 5'8" 140 lbs, larger chest and it fits comfortably. Good luck Pam Answered on 9/2/2012 by Pam from Chesterfield, MI A: I'm 5'4" 126 lbs, larger chest and I find the Lg comfortably snug except that the sleeves are not "snug" fitting in the upper arms, just a little baggy. I bought it when I was 20 lbs heavier, it felt very snug but still was comfortable. Seems to accommodate weight shifts well! I absolutely love it, looks good and is comfortable and the warmth just right for the cooler early fall. Answered on 9/29/2012 by Anonymous
