The Pilot Knife now has a little brother - the NRS Co-Pilot. Great features - smooth and serrated cutting edges, blunt safety tip, bottle opener, etc. Compact design is a fine fit on your PFD.
  • An excellent knife for freshwater boating and rescue. For saltwater use, choose the NRS Titanium Co-Pilot Knife.

  • For all of your cutting needs the Co-Pilot has both super-sharp smooth and serrated sections.

  • The blunt tip design protects against unintentional puncture of your gear or yourself. Also doubles as a flat-head screwdriver.

  • The unique sheath firmly locks the knife in place and only lets it go when you squeeze both sides of the release.

  • The contoured handle and rubberized grip gives you maximum control of the blade.

  • The sheath clip attaches firmly to a PFD lash tab.

  • Also included in the handle are a bottle opener and an oxygen tank valve wrench.

I love the compact size, and both me and my friends love the bottle-opener. My main beef is that it's not obvious enough which side is sharp and which side is the flat side. I can envision cutting my thumb in a pressure situation due to holding the knife upside down.

It a great looking knife but it's not for use any where near salt water. After only three outings in the Gulf of Mexico there is rust that keeps forming on the knife edge and in a couple of places where the yellow cushion grip and knife metal meet. What concerns me the most is that the spring used behind the "ejection button" on the sheath is completely rusted already and will probably fail in a couple of months. And this is after the knife and holder have been submerged in fresh water after every use. Very disappointing!

      Comments about NRS Co-Pilot Knife:

Other knives I've owned were too long and I frequently bumped them with my left had when I needed to row hard and fast through whitewater. This one stays up and out of the way. Very secure in the sheath, too.

          Comments about NRS Co-Pilot Knife:

I bought the knife for safety reasons for kayk fishing off the new jersey coast. The blunt tip
is a great idea. The holder is not so great. The knife is rusting after only a few trips in the ocean. It has been submerged in freshwater after each trip. It is best suited for fresh water fishing. The salt water will corrode it.

              Comments about NRS Co-Pilot Knife:

Have gone through two knives by now...without using it on the river. The problem is the cheap plastic attachment sheath snaps with no effort at all. Two knives and both sheaths snapped when climbing back into the raft and the knife was gone. All that was left was the broken plastic tip wedged in the attachment point. The time when you really need a knife is in emergent situations but if your knife cannot stay with you during an unplanned swim it is no good. If I needed a casual knife to open bottles or spread mayo I can pack a $5 folding knife and put it in my pocket. A good knife is ruined by a cheap, unreliable clip on system. It's too bad.

                Q:

Can the NRS Co_Pilot be utilized in saltwater?
Several reviews indicate that if exposed to Saltwater the knife it will rust. I also am concerned about the metal spring located inside the clip, if this is able to withstand saltwater conditions
I purchased this knife to be used solely for saltwater usage. Is this knife recommended for extended saltwater conditions?

We recommend the titanium model for saltwater use. The steel model will rust. You can reduce that by washing and oiling the knife after every use, but you'll still probably get some pitting.

Bought it for a friend. It's pretty good but you have to rinse it immediately after each trip. I use an Atlantic Salt that does not rust but costs 3 to 4 x

I have used it in salt water conditions and it has rusted--IF I fail to rinse it and wipe it down after each use. The spring was fine after multiple years.
