The CRKT Bear Claw Knife is an extension of your hand that cuts rope and webbing like a razor. The blunt tip prevents point penetration in emergency situations.
  • The curve In the Triple-Point serrated blade concentrates the cutting motion for quick, easy severing of the material.

  • Blade control comes easy with the generous size finger hole and friction grooves on the blade spine, underside and near the tip.

  • The knife is held firmly in its sheath but releases smoothly with a jerk or thumb push.

  • Columbia River Knife & Tool makes the handle and sheath of super tough Zytel®, an injection molded composite that wears like metal.

  • See larger images and more views for how the included clip fastens to the sheath. The clip slips on a lashtab for handy access. The holes and slots in the sheath serve for additional security anchoring of the sheath to your PFD.

  • The clip is removable and can be moved to open toward the handle or tip end of the sheath. When mounted on the lash tab, the knife is oriented for a right-hand draw.

  • The shank of the blade runs the full length of the handle for superior strength.

  • The blade is made of taper ground AUS 4 stainless steel for excellent edge holding and corrosion resistance.
  • Material: AUS 4, 55-57 HRC stainless steel blade, Zytel handle and sheath
  • Length: 5.75" total, 2.375" blade
  • Weight: 3.2 oz.
  • Blade Edge: Serrated
  • Blade Tip: Blunt
  • Includes:
  • Sheath
  • Clip with 4 screws and screwdriver to attach to sheath
  • Lanyard

Comments about CRKT Bear Claw Knife:

This is a really, really great tool - I had high expectations, but have straight away discovered even more areas for using it, eg.: -patien clothing removal, it even cut through my safety boots , just like a hot knife through butter - it now replaces my rescue scissors!

I have already reccommended it to alln my SAR-collegues.

Comments about CRKT Bear Claw Knife:

This knife lives on my PFD, up high on my left shoulder. It takes up little room but is there for me to grab in case of entanglement. I like the bright orange grip, the finger hole for secure handling, and the tight fit in the sheath. It has never slipped out, though I wear it handle-down. You should know that the stainless steel WILL rust after exposure to salt water. I rinse my knife in fresh water to prevent that. I love this knife. It could only be improved if it were titanium.

Comments about CRKT Bear Claw Knife:

I've had one of these on my PFD for several years now and purchased another one for my wife's jacket. Finger hole makes for superior grip when wearing gloves. I have put many river miles toting this knife while kayaking and rafting - never had it self-eject from its sheath. A river knife meant to get you out of sticky situations doesn't come better designed than this.

Comments about CRKT Bear Claw Knife:

I wanted a knife to attach to my PFD. I wanted it to be unnoticed when I didn't need it, but to efficiently slice through straps and up to 3/8" rope in life or death situations. I believe this knife will do all of this.

The knife needs a strong tug to get it out of the sheath. This first seemed to be a negative but I want the knife to be there when I need it and not on the bottom of the river.

It also needs some other device to attach it to a closed strap such as the one on the top front of my PFD. I used nylon tie wraps.

I tried the Pilot knife and felt it was too heavy and cut rope poorly.

Great PFD knife. You know where it is in your hand, due to best grip design ever. I loved the sheath, and mounted at angle facing up. No problems with coming out. Cuts rope like a lazer. Love it. I will pick another for my wife.

              Q:

Is the sheath available in a configuration convenient for left handed customers?

If not, I request NRS to either get them from the maker, or, if CRKT doesn't offer them, request that they start doing so.

FYI, about 10% of people are left handed. Please stock handedness specific products for lefties as well as righties. If you think it isn't worth the trouble to stock products for left handed customers, think about how you stock male and female centered products and multiple sizes, even sizes such as XXS, XS or XXL. Surely those sizes are suitable for 10% or fewer of your customers.

                A:

I think it would depend on the type of attachments on your PFD. If you
used the clip on the back of the holder it would only work for a right
handed configuration. But if you could strap it on securely you could
easily flip it over and it would work for a lefty.

                A:

The Bear Claw only comes with the one orientation sheath. Though it's not ideal, you can mount it upside down, using the slots and holes in the sheath to secure it. Almost all the other knives we carry are either-hand accessible or have a reversible clip. I'll pass your concern along to our purchasers. You can also comment on the CRKT Bear Claw product page; I see that other lefties have done so.
