Princeton Tec Byte Headlamp$19.95
Don't be fooled by its size. Although smaller and lighter than its big brothers Fuel and Remix, Byte is capable of packing a powerful punch thanks to a Maxbright LED.

Comments about Princeton Tec Byte Headlamp: I have four children, I bought two of these and two of Petzl Tikka 2s. Each was the same price. I liked that the PTec had the red light and was more adjustable. However, the on/off switch broke after about 4 months on both PTec headlamps. The light would turn on and stay on. The only way to turn it off was to take out the batteries. The Petzl Tikka 2 is still working like a charm 3 years later.

Comments about Princeton Tec Byte Headlamp: I bought the Byte headlamp because I needed a headlamp during our frequent power outages here in north Florida. I also wanted a headlamp to for kayaking so it had to be at least splash-proof. So far I haven't used the Byte on the water but I have used it around the house. The red light is a nice feature when you wake up in darkness and have to stumble around the house but don't want to be blinded by white light. The unit is comfortable enough on the head and the weight is as much as I would want up there. I docked it a star because it can be hard to find just the right spot to push the on/off button. A toggle switch would be easier. Also, you have to cycle through the lights from red to low white to high white and back to off. If you only want red in order to save your night vision then you have to remember to cover the lamp with your hand as you try to switch to off. Other than this gripe it's a nice little tool.

Cons Best Uses Comments about Princeton Tec Byte Headlamp: We needed an inexpensive light for our rescue dogs. It is important that the dogs been seen on the mountain during a search. We have tried all kinds of lights including light sticks, lighted dog collars, pet lights and about anything else we could find. They all broke quickly or otherwise did not work after a short time. The Princeton Tec Byte headlights have worked daily for three months without a problem. We have changed batteries a couple of times, but the red setting lasts forever and has been a great application for our Search and Rescue tracking dogs.
