We took it on both an 8-day Main Salmon river trip and 6-day Rogue river trip and it held up well in the sand and kept things dry on and off the river. We use some type of liner (heavy trash bag) to give the gear extra protection in case of a submersion (aka raft flip) but we've yet to test in under those conditions. A bag liner is also helpful for packing. With a liner placed in the Bill's bag, you can get those odd shaped items in a little easier and pack them down. It would be nice if NRS offered a bag liner specifically designed for the Bill's bag. Best Uses Comments about NRS 3.8 Heavy-Duty Bill's Bag: This bag was terrible. I bought it new for a Grand Canyon trip and the seam on the top roll over buckle broke on day 3. Another friend had the same experience with the bag a month earlier. Overall design would be good IF THE BAG WORKED. This is a highly recommended bag from an industry leading name, I'd expect it to last more than three days...

Comments about NRS 3.8 Heavy-Duty Bill's Bag: Excellent bag. I loaded it with 40 pounds of gear, checked it on flights to/from Utah from California, and used the bag for 6 days on the Green River out of Moab. Loaded bag fit perfectly cross-ways in the canoes. Back-pack style straps made it easy to carry from the shore to camps.
Pros Cons Best Uses Comments about NRS 3.8 Heavy-Duty Bill's Bag: Bills bag is a large dry bag with back pack straps. It works great for hiking gear into the Gunnison Gorge.

Comments about NRS 3.8 Heavy-Duty Bill's Bag: During 8 days of whitewater on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon, my NRS' DryBag did everything I expected it to do. It took a beating, strapped into the rafts, stored my tent, sleeping bag, clothes, and personal items, and kept them all dry. I could enjoy the trip and never had to think about my gear.

Comments about NRS 3.8 Heavy-Duty Bill's Bag: Great pack for short distance carrying ONLY. I am using mine for work in the BWCA and had to pack it over 13 miles. OUCH! The strap system does not make for comfort when you have a large load. My seams started ripping where the straps connect at the top of the pack. Already out of use for the season....
