Actually, this technically WAS a gift, I bought it to give to my husband. However, before it actually got into his hands, i realized it's the perfect size for my camera. I've been using it all summer and it's perfect. On the days I don't use it for my camera, it's the perfect size for my cell phone and (rather bulky) key ring.

I've since bought the smaller size for hubby, which is great for his nano.

The case has never been submerged, but routinely gets dipped in the water, and I've not had any incidence of water leaking in. It's really easy to open, compared the otter box I own, and I'd highly recommend it.

Bought a 1010 to carry a replacement camera for one damaged in a spill earlier this year. Measured the camera and compared dimensions on all the Pelicans in the spec-chart and decided on the closest size. Plan for the foam insert reducing the internal dimensions of these cases. Luckily, the 1010 fits my camera snugly and is not too small and needing returning. Generously go at least one size bigger to the size of what you're packing. Also, these are more appropriate as gear-cases - not as deck-secured waterproof cases to be opened and closed with the removal and stowage of a camera or GPS.

              • Pelican Micro Cases

                Q:

Can the Pelican Micro Case be secured in a white water raft? Is it okay to strap it on to the raft rope and it won't fall off? Will it be secured?

                  A:

The micro case comes with a small carabiner. Wll not keep it from being torn off but should keep it secured to whatever you clip it to.

The small Pelican boxes are great for cameras and stuff....easy access.  They come with one of those super lame tiny carabiners that would not take much abuse...but are ok for getting in the way... BUT, they have slots through which you can thread webbing etc.  Not rope, but you could then make a more secure loop with the webbing and THEN attach to the rope.  it is really all plastic but pretty high grade.  I use webbing and attach to a cooler or something that is well strapped to the boat...good access and going to stay in a flip situation.  You could also potentially get high grade cord and put it thru the hole they put the carabiner in...and that might work if it didnt suffer much abuse.

These boxes are pretty bomber and there are strap slot/loops at either
end. If it's tied securely it will be fine. I once had a larger pelican
box go down a section of the Watauga, including a small waterfall, with
my video camera in it. I caught up with it, opened it up and everything
                  was safe and dry inside.
