Have not tried yet since raft season was over when Christmas arrived (purchased three for gifts). We do family rafting/fishing and the size of these will allow them to sit under rower seat or be strapped to exterior frame to save space. Very high quality boxes. Will also use for car camping for food items. Great boxes --- will likely purchase more of them.

As with most recreational applications, value is the convergence of product perfromance with a minimum of weight and volume. While the box is indeed water tight, it's outer design could be better done to reduce extra volume. Same can be said of the strap design. But it gets the job done in protection and dryness of property that is stored in it.

Was stunned when York Packs died. Still have 7 of those green/ yellow beauty's. This product is almost exactly the same. You can even figure out how to rig the strap closure to close the same way the Yorkies closed.
I'm hopelessly addicted to solo wilderness trips in canoes. Lower Canyons of Rio Grande (13 trips), Grande Ronde River, Smith River, etc. Always solo paddle a tandem canoe turned around. Nothing better than looking down at four NRS Boulder Boxes (or York packs) perfectly fitted into the space in front of me.

I bought this box to store food and cooking gear in for extended trips in my small sailboat. It is well made, closes tightly and easily, and holds a convenient amount of stuff. If it was larger, it would get heavy to carry and would make it more difficult to dig deep for things on the bottom. I don't understand why it is so expensive, but I ordered another one because I found it so convenient.

For anybody that's been using a plastic tote for a kitchen box, here's your answer. This box had everything I was looking for, very sturdy construction, securely fastened lid, and I was pleasantly surprised with the carrying capacity. It's a great camping/canoeing box!

My answer would be: Not quite. I think the handles and box are strong
enough to not warp or break if the handles were used to tie the box to
the frame, but the box lid is too thin for a seat. It's a good dry box
and could work as a seat in a pinch, but I don't think it would last as

But the top of the lid has some flex to is so
if an adult sits on it, stuff on top will get
squished a bit.

I would say that this box would not work well as a seat. First, it's fairly small. Second, while it would work as a seat it would also compromise the integrity of the box because it's just plastic, unsupported in the middle. Also it's not super waterproof so it might also affect the seal.

It is a sturdy box but if you suspend from the external handles and use as a seat, you will likely have a crack develop. However, if you suspend it through the strap slots it may be better. In either case the weight of the person using it as a seat will be an important factor.

No, although this is a great box and could be used to sit on, do not plan on making it into a river seat. I've had this box upside down in a iK on The Gila for an hour in a nasty pinning, not a drop of water got inside. Makes a great Coffee Box. Again this box is Not suitable as a river seat!
