  • A zippered side pocket is perfect for keeping small items like your keys or wallet easy to access.

  • Also includes detachable shoulder strap.

I previously reviewed the 2011 Purest and only gave it one star. To see that review look for my nickname: tvcrider. To their credit the folks at NRS still published my less than positive review, unlike one well-known on-line kayak retailer and NRS dealer (name starts with 'O') that only publishes stellar reviews. [...] After reading my first review NRS contacted me directly and asked if I would try out the 2011 Purest duffel again on their dime. Well, sure! I just got done using the Purest Duffel to haul all my paddle gear (minus paddle) and clothing around NYC while walking and taking the subway. The new padded shoulder strap provided a balanced, comfortable carry and was very supportive even though I had the bag overloaded. It fact I had it so stuffed that my tube of sunblock 'exploded' in the bag, however, the fabric made for an easily clean-up. I still wish the bag was just a smidge larger, so I will give it a 4 star rating. To NRS: a big "Thank You!"

I owned two of these, a 2010 and a 2011 (returned). I have no serious complaints on the 2010 Purest duffel. It is adequate to hold most of my sea kayaking day kit, but it could be just a bit larger. I purchased a 2011 version for when I need to carry extra gear from the car. NRS made some subtle changes to this bag for 2011.
    - The 'NRS' logo was updated (OK).
    - The pack cloth fabric was changed. It does not seen to have an overt coating (as in 2010), but in testing it does appear to be waterproof.
    - The shoulder strap pad on the 2010 model was not overly comfortable, nor or was it well placed. NRS totally changed the shoulder strap on the 2011 version with both positive and negative results. They added a contoured shoulder pad that is non-slick and can be placed where you need it. However in modifying the shoulder strap NRS changed the snap-links or clips that attach the strap to the duffel. On the 2010 Purest duffel the gates of these snap-links are metal and quite robust. I never had an issue with them. On the 2011 duffel the gate was changed to plastic. The very first time I attached the strap to the duffel one of the gates just snapped off! Not good. NRS was not able to supply me with a replacement strap so I returned the bag. I would not purchase the 2011 Purest until they replace the snap-links with something that is more durable.

Comments about NRS Purest Mesh Duffel Bag:

This is a great all-around gear bag for paddle and surf sports. My wife and I use the large ones for kayak surfing since it easily stores wetsuit, helmet, PFD, spraydeck, booties, and other gear. I purchased optional changing pads separately from the quick-change version. My kids use the small ones for their wetsuits and body board fins, and each of us has his/her own bag. After rinsing all gear at the beach, the bags keep the car from getting wet on the way home until we can hang everyhing to dry. Mesh is great for keeping stowed gear vented, and bottom is waterproof. Now, we're always packed and ready to go!

Great for kayak gear to dry, just throw in wet gear and leave outside to dry without any river funk smell later. It is sufficiently large to hold numerous PFDs and helmets. Great addition to keeping my gear togeather.

It's just one big compartment with a small zippered pocket accessible from the outside that's good for keys, etc.

Hello Andrei, There are no compartments inside--it's all one big compartment.
There is one small pouch on the outside (the zipper for this is visible in the
image) for small thin stuff. The zipper to the main body of the bag is on top, not
visible in the graphic. This bag has been very useful to me, for stuff that
doesn't need to be kept dry, but that you want handy (water bottles, camera in
waterproof case, raincoat, alternate footwear, etc.)
