Comments about NRS Two-Piece Kayak Paddle Bag:

We've been using the bag for a few months now. It protects the paddles from bouncing around in the car. We carry three breakdown euro paddles and it makes them easier to carry, also. The padded protection inherently involves some bulk. For a day trip, it fits in the rear compartment. If we're carrying more stuff, we leave the bag in the car.

Unless they have changed the rules (and I don't think they have), a kayak
paddle is considered a weapon and cannot be part of your carry-on luggage.
                        Go figure.
I have one of these bags and it is top notch. It protects both of our carbon
                        paddles well. Recommended.

Certainly this case will clear TSA checkpoint x-ray machines and should fit in commercial aircraft overhead bins or closet so it can be 'carry-on' luggage-

                        Hi,
Not for carry-on board. It has to go with others big laugages.

I have only tried to fly with it once. The Delta agent who checked me in didn't question it, however the TSA agent said no go. He said "it's considered a weapon". However, I will tell you he wasn't totally sure and asked a co-worker who also wasn't sure. In the end, I think it was just easier to say no than to say yes. Thus, I had to go back and check it, at which point Delta wanted to charge me $150 to check it. I simply told them that wasn't happening. After debating a bit, they checked it for free. Not sure if it was because I have Diamond status with them or if they just gave up and didn't want to debate with me anymore.
So, ultimately, like most sporting equipment, I think it's luck of the draw as to who you encounter during the check-in process. Having status helps for sure.
It's important to note that the paddle and paddle case held up well as checked luggage.

In most cases this bag is too large for carry-on. Security is o.k. although sometimes they don't allow paddles. I have had the Lendal 4-piece as carry-on in the Lendal bag.
The NRS 2-piece bag has room for a lot more than the paddle so you can check it on as one of your pieces.

                        Dick,
My paddle bags are a few years old now & I have ones with both the "new" NRS logo and the old logo. Both bags are made in China.
They have held up well and for a 2-piece paddle (I also own 4-piece and solid paddles), I have not found one I like better, even though I check all of them out at every trade show.
Seals (the spray skirt company) makes a nice, fairly similar bag. It seems to be PARTIALLY constructed in the USA. By their distinction, I would have to say they contract out some of the construction to a company outside the US as well.
                        Hope it helps,
                        Bill
