The Owyhee & Bruneau Rivers Guide is the best guide available for these rivers. However, the guide is not as detailed as RiverMaps and other similar publications. The guide provides general information (locations of put-ins and take-outs; locations and ratings of rapids; indication of river miles; and topographical mapping), but does not provide detailed information on individual rapids, such as information on whether to scout rapids, where to scout rapids and how to run rapids. If you're going to run these rivers, the guidebook is worth purchasing for the general information it provides. You'll just have to pick your own line through the rapids versus going where some guidebook tells you to go. That's not a bad thing.

No, the guide is fairly general.  It has ratings for mapped rapids, mapped campsites, and text insets with geology and historical notes.  For actual guides to run specific rapids, you will need additional sources such as Floating and Fishing Oregons Canyons, by Melinda Allen.

I am familiar with the East Fork, Garrett crossing to Three Forks. I would say that all the major rapids are on the map. Lots of other ones, smaller are not. It indicates portaging Owyhee falls, definitely a portage. Water level dependent you can sometime run thread the needle. Water level dependent you sometimes need to portage Cabin. Water level dependent you can sometimes run the upper portion of Cable very lower section usually needs to be portaged..

Hey Jenny, How you doing?
I looked all through this Guide and several other things I obtained on this trip. The conclusion I came to is basically it would be an awesome trip but you better know what you are doing as there are a few blind rappids that can be class 4 and above. Portage is recommended in these spots keep in mind time of year plays a part. The Guide itself was very helpful. If you are going to do the trip I highly recommend it.
